The film scores in Indian films are very diverse from those found in Hollywood film. Hollywood films mainly consist of underscore except if the movie is a musical and has songs attached to the score. Bollywood is the Indian Hollywood, and is very large compared to Hollywood. Bollywood, on the other hand, has scores that mainly consist of songs. The scores for Indian films are considered filmi or masala film. Bollywood still has the underscore when a songs in not being performed. Many times during the songs, the singers are not in the scene but are dubbing over the scene in their own voices. These items songs are the strength of Bollywood, and have caused a lot of diversity. Bollywood and Hollywood both have their own unique features, and at times start crossing over in to each other. Movies like “Slumdog Millionaire” have had a huge impact of the combination of the two large film industries. Many times religions like Hinduism are represented in the movies, also emotions are represented.
Bollywood is older than Hollywood, but only by 11 years. Even though over 1000 movies are produced in Bollywood, only 15 – 25 % movies thrive and the rest are failure. This still produces over 3-4 billions viewers which surpassed Hollywood in 2004. Hollywood’s first production came out in 1910 whereas Bollywood’s first production was in 1899. This created an increase in studios, which in turn increased the amount of scores being generated for films. This boost was taking place around 1930’s. These Bollywood films are often called masala films and contain overdramatic plotlines, costumes, flashy costumes and surroundings, along with item songs and dances. ...les, India rajas and castles. Both had their times of medieval music which is still used today to represent those times. Indian epics had a major role in producing folk music. They produce different forms of drama, dance, and song. A large part influence on the different style of music comes from the Indian religions. Many instruments are considered to have a divine origin, because many Gods and Goddesses are represented holding an instrument. Hindu gods such as Hold Ganesha holds the conch, Hold Vishnu holds he damru, and Lord Krishna holds the flue.
Bollywood has its difference, but is very only one of its kinds. Different areas of India have different cultures which have a huge impact on the music in India. Not only the cultures, but the religions have also affected the music. The mixture between the east and a west is going to be the future of the industries.
In The Important Places filmmaker choose awesome music because it gives viewer to feel in the best mood while watching. There are many hundreds or ragas used by Indian players. But every raga follows a specific set of guideline and characteristics. The scale of a raga includes five, six, or seven notes, an ascending and descending pattern, a note hierarchy, and a set of prescribed motifs. In addition to the musical technicalities of a raga are the humanly attributes. A raga has a time and season of performance, a set mood, and legendary “magical” properties. In this fashion, ragas are not performances. In actuality, ragas, like maqam, provide raw material for many performances, both improvised and composed. Ragas have its own musical personality. Even more so, one could compare a raga to that of a

While I am an avid critic and a skeptic of the Indian “Hindi” film industry, it is hard for me to ignore the cultural significance that Bollywood holds. While pop-culture is a representation of the society, films also hold the responsibility of perpetuating, and in some cases exaggerating, long held beliefs. Much like the film industry in the

If a director has a certain vision for his or her film, they will rely on the music supervisor to get that vision shown. However the music supervisor must keep in mind the film’s music budget, making him or her an important mediator of creativity and commerce. There isn’t quite another job that must regulate between the two so immensely. The music supervisor also not only listens to the directors input, but must choose the music themselves that they believe will fit into a certain scene. A music supervisor must be able to look at a scene, understand the mood and emotions conveyed during the scene, and find a song that encompasses that feeling. Therefore, an understanding of film and music theory is needed in order to elicit the emotional reaction that the film wants to show. This process is an incredibly creative one that is vital to the quality of a film or television
During the course of this semester, the several musical styles that have been discussed and analyzed have displayed various similarities and differences. These differences in certain musical elements have accounted for the distinctiveness and uniqueness of each style of music. The culture behind these countries’ music adds even more to their individualism. Cultural aspects such as religion play a huge role in the music of each country as well. Styles of music in Africa might be more upbeat than certain styles in India, for example. Some cultures use music in religion, while others may not. Aspects such as dance are important factors in all three types of music. Despite the differences and similarities, however, without music, these cultures would perhaps not be as fascinating and unique as they are now.
Throughout the years Hollywood has made a great transformation with its movies. With the development of technology and other sources movies are tending to become better and better. When movies were first introduced they were scratchy and some had little to no sound. In today’s society movies show up on screens crystal clear. Some movies are even 3-d which gives the audience a feeling that they are actually there. The term crossover itself is a new emerging trend in Indian cinema. It has emerged to encapsulate the new brand of cinema that crosses cultural borders at the stage of conceptualization and production and thus manifests a hybrid cinematic grammar at the textual level as well as crossing over in terms of distribution and reception. It is both situated and global. Situated in the sense that it depicts the cultural aspect of a particular society but global by the fact that it has the ability to go beyond genre, audience and cultural borders. In that sense it is not relegated to one cultural border. Moreover, the term crossover for this genre of movie comes from the fact that it appeals to a wide variety of audience, cross-cultural conceptualization, production and reception. This lends cultural hybridity to the cinematic text. As, also the fact that it is grounded in a multiple of national, cultural and generic source. In such type of films as i...

Bollywood film has opened the gates to Bollywood dance, creating a popular style that spread throughout the world. This style would not have been able to spread so quickly if it not had been for the familiar themes and culture found in the genre. Because of this diverse make-up, Bollywood dance is being questioned, for it cannot be seen as traditional Indian dance if it is made up of so many different cultures and styles. Due to the creation from a wide assortment of cultures and practices, Bollywood dance has been the subject of a controversy focusing on its authenticity. Although it is not pure Indian movements, it has become the face of Indian dance due to accessibility and familiarity.
India is a nation replete with rich history, numerous languages, diverse cultures, multiple religions, and expressive arts. The Indus Valley civilization, consisting of modern day India and Pakistan, was one of the three earliest and most widespread civilizations of human history (Wright 2009). Indian classical music dates back to ancient times, almost four thousand years ago. The origins of Indian classical music can be found in the Vedas, the oldest scriptures in the Hindu tradition (Ruckert 2004). Traditions, customs, and other societal norms envelop Indian classical music. In recent times, however, previously revered traditions have drastically diminished. Some claim that the decline of ancient traditions is causing the music to be impure; others assert the transformations of outdated traditions to modern ones foster innovation. Although the archaic traditions of Indian classical music have dwindled with time, the transformations to modern ideas and practices unequivocally promote innovation.
The history of Indian music extends back many centuries. Traditionally in that period, there were various kingdoms, in which the power was held equally by the king and the temples. This was the division of music. The temples presented religious music to all that wanted it while the kings patronized the separate artists. Music also formed a major part of the theatre. It was very famous as nearly all of India's people had access to it. There were full scale musicals in the ancient Indian theatres. This tradition has been carried into till the recent days, where Bollywood (the Indian Hollywood) films are very music-friendly. Music is an integral part of the movies that are being made. But many movies are now being targeted at the Western society, movies with less music. This is killing India's musical background.
Music generally plays an important role in all of our lives. Western music reflects all of our supporting cultures. It is commonly passed down from generation to generation like any other type of music. Western music is shared among different religions, dance, and drama. All of which is used to reached out to a certain group of people that relates traditions. Western culture is shared among genres like: Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Rap, Reggae, and so much more.
