Rehabilitation is a way to encourage visually impaired people to recover from ophthalmic diseases and to prevent further complications. It can also be used as the optical aid and non-optical aid to providing holistic rehabilitation through physical, mental, and social. For example, the Optical aids are tools that require lenses or prisms that involve the enhancement of visual quality such as can using the bigger picture to be seen more easily, closed-circuit television (CCTV), handheld magnifier, stand magnifier, and telescope. Non-optical aids are devices that do not require a lens, such as using the proper lighting, training looking at objects near or close, using a pen or a dark pencil, using the optical filters on the eyeglasses. Optometrists have accepted vision therapy, which is a medical treatment for optical muscle disabilities, as a feasible treatment used for eye related problems; claiming the treatment can strengthen vision and give the patient the opportunity to understand visuals quicker and clearer (Press). Vision therapy originated in the 1950s and over the past 25 years, has gained popularity, mainly because of new technological innovations in the field of treatment. Generally, vision therapy is prescribed as a measure mainly for people between the ages of 3 and 18. With the results from a comprehensive series of eye tests, the optometrist can work with the patient using special instruments—prisms, filters, occluders, and eye lenses—and strengthen the eye muscles, thus improving sight. According to optometrists in favor of vision therapy, these methods of treatment using these instruments function as safer routes to repair eye disabilities. Although vision therapy can yield favorable results, the practice as a treatment for innate eye disabilities has been in hot debate lately; as it can exceed $8000 and insurance companies do not cover the treatment. For decades, insurance companies have refused to accept vision therapy as a legitimate method for repairing eyesight (Boink). The primary question that we should ask ourselves is: how many things can we attend at the same time? The truth is that we didn’t perceive this friend because of a phenomenon called “inattentional blindness”. The problem is that the richness of our visual experience leads us to believe that our visual representation will include and preserve the same amount of detail (Levin et al 2000). I realize that blind people are important for us to not make fun of them or hurting their feeling that being blind is hardest for them. For me, if i have a blind person in my family or friend I got to cheer them up that being blind is not bad as being normal because some blind person can be talented and successful in their life. I tell them that I study psychology in school and there was one day that the teacher makes me being blind and I realize that being blind is not bad as they think but makes me experience how I do the normal activity is harder than when you have an eyes. It makes me understand the feeling of having no vision on everything is not the worst thing on your life.
