I am an African American female who attends the University of Chicago Charter School, which is located on the South side of Chicago. I am seventeen years old and I live and attend school in a predominantly Black neighborhood. I have seen plenty in my seventeen years of living. My goal is to go to college and become a teacher, so that I can return to Chicago and help the people in my community. In six years, I will be giving back to the community and helping the world become better place. I will help teach kids not to live in stereotypes and let them bring them down.
Race plays an important role in society. It is the reason why different races don’t get along now days because other races think they are better than others and they have more power. Slavery has always existed and probably will always exist because of the country we live in. Racism is unnecessary and we should all get along and be treated equally. I love all races and feel like everybody should get along. All ethnic groups and different races need to learn how to come together. We all have the same goals in life but we will never know this because we won’t come together as one.
Becoming an elementary school teacher is very important to me because it is my number one goal in life. I feel as if African American children have low test scores due to lack of preparations and they aren’t interested in learning. As a teacher, I would teach my students in an interesting way, a way I know they would enjoy but most importantly my goal is to help them learn and be smart. I plan to teach my students how to be proud that they are African Americans and push them to work harder. I would tell them that no matter what others say about you or your race you are still intelligent. Afric...

...h hatred towards Whites. Slavery played a major part in it and so does ignorance. Some people think highly of themselves and put others down that so they think they are better and more superior. This is one of the main causes of racism also.
Me: Do you think racism is still the same or has it changed over the years?
Ashley: I believed it has changed over a period of time. Racism is still bad now days but it was worst back then. It seems as if back them all White people were mean to African Americans and didn’t like them. They didn’t even have a valid reason not to like us because we were the ones who were being treated badly. This country has come a long way but we still have a lot of improving to do. Situations like the Don Sterling situation can’t happen. We need to love each other and understand that we all have the same rights and should be treated equally.
racism in the society is not as strong as it used to be but it is
Historically we have been a highly racialized society. Slavery played a big role in the hierarchy made up of different races. As we learned Africa Americans were always finding themselves at the bottom. I think slavery greatly influenced the social construct of race.
-Racism is and was killing America but has slowly improved over the last 90 years. Racism is horrible, and no one should be subjected to it. It tears apart family, friends and at one time almost tore apart America. In the 1930’s racism was a big thing it was everywhere but way more common in the south as it was during the civil war. Blacks and other races besides Caucasian were subjected to hate just because they were just of a different skin tone. In the 1930’s blacks did not go to schools with whites, they did not drink out of the fountain the white drank out of they did not go to the bathroom with the whites everything was segregated.
Racism plays a big role when society is labeled. Racism comes from simply people not liking others just for the simple reason of how they look or where they come from; but we cannot place all the blame on society for being racist. For the most part, it comes from our own upbringing. As children grow, parents instill in them values and beliefs. So if a parent teaches their children to be racist they will learn it and use it as they grow up. “Upbringing is the largest cause of racism”-Anonymous. Even if we allow yourself to get to know some of them, this will always be in the back of your mind” (laurenmay123).
As advanced as we are in society today, racism still surrounds us and every day we are exposed to racially discriminating behaviors. Many people have no idea about the level of racism that we are in today. People may imagine that everything is fine and opportunities are available for whoever wants them, but things are not fine and opportunities to attain a better life are difficult to come by. Individuals who experience racism can realize the level in which the world stands today. It might not be as clear as it was, perhaps, during the time of slavery, but if we open up our eyes we will notice that it is still everywhere. Injustice and discrimination although it does exist on both places is much more severe in my home country in Venezuela that it is in the United States. At this point in our history it’s sad that certain humans think they’re superior to other races because of their skin color or religion. However, we have come a long way from the centuries past, which were the times of slavery. Being so close to 2010, racism should have been completely a thing of the past.
Has racism change since the 1900s? Many blacks have been treated unequally since the 1900’s. Since 1865, when the civil war ended and the blacks were free. They could do anything they want. Racism has changed since the 1900s, now American trust blacks to be presidents. Americans would actually vote for a black presidential candidate. Whites and blacks live next each other. Now many, not all live next to each other, whites and blacks. Racism has changed since the 1900s, in different ways, but there is still some racism left.
Racism is a problem that has been going on since the beginning of time . It states that it has been argued that human beings are dislike based on the skin of their color . It seems as if racism as became a part of human nature. Racism was planted in the early 1500s and 1600s. they capitalize on slavery using it as a way of income. they had the African slave trade which over a half a million died. During the passage from Africa to the new world they couldn 't survive the trip. It came so big that many people became wealthy off of slave trading. In the American Revolution over 10,000 african americans in slavery fought for their freedom with Britain. Everyone in the 1807s British pass laws outlawed slavery. There are many forms of
There is still racism all over the world today, against all different people. This may never fully disappear due to people's personal beliefs, which can't all be evaluated equally. However, in America we now have complete legal equality for every individual no matter what race or ethnic background. African- Americans have gotten to a point in history where they no longer are discriminated against and have the same opportunities as everyone else. It took a long time to get to this point, but now that we are here, it can be seen that there are no more issues of segregation or discrimination such as there was in the decades after 1865.
Racism, still affects our society socially. It is like this every day, everywhere, and every time, people suffer discrimination. All because they have differences amongst each other. Different beliefs, different cultures, different skin color, all of these act like building blocks to help construct what we know as
It got better as times goes on, and it’s better than what it was during and after slavery. Kids go through racism more than adults, Because when we go to school we see a lot of different people and we we meet a lot of new people everywhere, that's why kids go through racism than adults. Many blacks are sometimes accused of committing crimes which some of them do due to poverty. Most African-American kids are homeschooled due to racism at schools. People view racism based on where the society they’re from and people want to raise awareness for that. Al most everyone goes through racism everyday. europeans wanted to take over america but it was already taken by the native americans, so the Europeans left to take over a different country.
“I wanted to become a teacher to be able to make a positive difference on the future of children. For me, it is fulfilling challenge, stimulating the next generation to become lifelong learners. I have always been grateful to my mom (who is a retired teacher) for implanting values in me. I feel I should contribute what I have learned and experienced over the years. This way I will be paying back and at the same time can fulfill my desire of enhancing the education system.”
I believe teachers should serve as role models and be the center of a classroom. In order to maintain that students stay on task and are all on the same page, the teacher needs to serve as a guide and direct the students. I do not believe that students learn best in a textbook based setting, but that textbooks are important when referencing material. I believe all students learn differently and look for new ideas or ways to teach lessons and concepts, so that my students can learn as effectively as possible. I also believe that a teacher teaches much more than the subject. It is very important for students in my classroom to something other than the subject that I teach. I want them to learn life skills that will help them in more areas and aspects of their life other than education. I believe my students should strive for hard work, dedication, and integrity, and go beyond learning just the content of a
Many people on this earth grow up saying they would like to make a difference in this world. However, half of those people do not feel like putting in the work in order to do so. As an elementary education major, making a difference is one of the main goals. There are many benefits of becoming a teacher, and students benefit as well. In order to have many students successfully graduate from one grade to the next a teacher should be willing to put in as much work that is needed. Elementary school is where children are set up for the rest of their education. It is important to understand how to go into this career field, becoming a teacher has its own benefits, and the children are able to benefit from teachers.
Being a teacher is a noble cause, though it also seems to be the dream of idiots and morons. It is a job where you work constantly and are always told what to teach. You are expected to teach to a standardized test. It is a job path that only the bravest take. The people who claim that those who can’t do teach, know nothing about teaching or how hard it is to teach. Especially high school students who have no desire to learn. Children in their last required chapter in their education. Their young pubescent minds focused more on the opposite sex over their grades. How do you teach such a difficult age group? How do you keep them engaged? Especially with a subject that so many find boring and tedious, English and English literature.
Every teacher has their strong points as well as weak points. Teaching is very hard work and some of them never grow to be anything better than mediocre. They do the bare minimum and very little over and above the call of duty. There are several ways to become a great teacher. Teachers are truly dedicated workers who put a lot of time and schooling into being able to teach for the rest of their lives.
