A lot of kids today have many things going on from sports to school, plus after school activities, the only time students can sit back and relax is during summer vacation. How amazing does it sound to catch up on your sleep and spend time with family and friends for 3 months? Summer vacation allows for students and teachers to just relax or sleep, and to go on vacations or just spend some quality time with family and friends. But on the other hand, the all year round school has a higher expense.
First, during the school days most students do not get enough sleep and need time to recharge their energy. According to research at sleepfoundation.org, “a study has shown that kids need an average of eight to ten hours but only 15% reported sleeping eight and half hours on school night. Many teens suffer from treatable sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy, insomnia, restless legs syndrome or sleep apnea” (“Teens and Sleep”). To fix irregular sleep patterns students needs the time to sleep and take a break, which summer break allows students and teachers to do for 3 months. …show more content…

In the article “The Joys of Summer,” the author Mitch Albom stated that, “You’d think homework was a full-time job- a mental break may be needed. These are young minds, young bodies. Replenishing the juices by kicking back is not a bad idea” (2). It is very difficult to catch up on your school work if a student misses even a day.
