Teen Viewings Who loves actin? Who doesn’t like following the rules? Most teens, that who. The Hunger games by Gary Ross and Anthem by Ayn Rand are packed tight with action. Neither of the main characters follow the rules. That’s why they relate so easily with teen viewers. Dystopian literature and films are currently popular among teens because Anthem has suspense and The Hunger Games has action, but both has a person who everyone can relate to in some way.
Ayn Rand’s book Anthem, brought a guy who is much different like every teen in today’s world. People relate so much easier when they are just like them. Katniss shows an amazing lead character. She showed independence and strength. “I volunteer” I gasped, “I volunteer as tribute.” (Ross) She showed strength by taking her sister's place in the games. Which means the possibility of death. Influencing her watchers that is it okay to be a woman and taking in responsibilities. The Hunger Games and Anthem bring us two different people but almost the same why by showing us weaknesses and strengths.
The Hunger Games and Anthem have strong lead roles that show courage. Katniss and Equality 7-2521 both disobey rules and regulations to make their life better. “We swung our fist through the windowpane… Then we ran.” (Rand 75) Equality was finally free and knew that his life would become better. With doing this he finally got himself out. Just like Katniss did when she was able to save herself and Peeta. Both clearly bring amazing roles and seem to catch the eyes of young viewers.
Obviously, both are action packed. Which help bring in viewers. But they also relate easily with the teen audience. Teens definitely like the fighting and breaking the rules. Plus having the parent role with taking care of themselves.
