1.1 Background of the Study
Tourism plays an important role in the development of a city or country. Besides, tourism business is regularly viewed as an instrument for boosting the national economy and the growth of a particular region (Dahles & Bras, 1999). Tourism is an important sector of the Sabah economy and it is the 3rd largest GDP contributor to the state. In the year of 2015 the visitor’s arrival grand total was 3,176,226 with over 2,197,800 million domestic tourists and attracting 978,426 international tourists, a loss of -1.7% compared to 2014. (www.sabahtourism.com). Super attempt have been initiated in regards to providing a wide range of quality tourism products in order to encourage tourism activities among foreign and national tourists in Kota Kinabalu or Sabah. For instance, Greater Kota Kinabalu a new term used by the state and federal government in relation to social and economic development planning and strategy. According to them Sabah tourist receipt will reach RM 16 b and tourist arrival will reach 8.1 m by 2020.
