“Oxygen is overrated” Swimming is one of the few sports that can start at a very young age and can continue to do well into there 60s. When learning how to swim at a young age, it can look very overwhelming but as for every sport, the more practices the child gets the better they will become. Learning how to swim is a long process and it’s even longer on when teaching a child how to swim. Children at a young age are very afraid to get into water and even more afraid to get there head wet. Children fully don’t understand that swimming in a swimming pool is closely related to taking a shower. The best game to play would have to be red light green light. Red Light Green Light is played by teaching the child to put their hands against the side of the pool and by yelling green light the child is to kick fast. Yellow light the child is to kick as a slow pace and then red light the child is to stop. This game is fun for the child but it also helps them work on kicking. Other games that are fun to play are sharks and minnows, water polar and sometimes just throwing a ball back and forth. Before moving on, make sure that they have mastered the tasks because that’s what’s going to help them as they move forward. Once the instructor feels that they are ready, start teaching the child to move their arms and legs at the same time. Side note: Teach them to swim the width of the pool first, rather then the length because the shallow end is where the instructor can stand and from experiences the child is not going to let go at first. After, helping the child swim the width of the pool several time try and let him go and see how well the child can do by themself. It might take the child a little while to let go but keep trying, the child might surprise the instructor and be good, just a little scared. The older the child becomes the harder the level of swimming will become. When the child is young they are taught the two easiest strokes, Freestyle and Backstroke. Freestyle and Backstroke are consisted the easy because for Freestyle the child is to lay of there belly in the water and move there arms (one at a time) out of the over, and over top of there head and then back in.
