GOOD—Health and Well-being: how do you maintain yours? It is scientifically proven that exercising every day gives a list of benefits—mind blowing ones too! Just a few of them are: it reduces stress, boost brainpower, change body image and makes you feel stronger. Whatever your goal is, whether you want to gain more muscle, get-toned, or to lose weight or just be healthy, exercising is your new best friend. If you 're a college student like me, you might want to consider initiating a habit of exercising every day: it really is helpful. Here are the four forms of exercises that I do to stay healthy and improve my well-being. One of my favorite forms of exercises that I do is Cardio. Cardio or Cardiovascular Exercise is any exercise …show more content…
Pilates is all about improving deep core strength, muscle control, flexibility, and body toning. Somehow I wonder, "if I just want to stretch my body, why not just do stretching, why Pilates?". Why Pilates? Well, what I love about this is, it 's not just about stretching your body. There are moves or positions that look very simple, but they take a lot of precision and control. Few of my favorite Pilates positions are: criss cross, controlled leg drop, and butt lifts with one resting leg. Criss cross has a special emphasis in obliques: this particular position helps define, and gives you a slim and smaller waistline. Controlled leg drop focuses on improving the core: this is a great way in strengthening the core, flattening belly, and defining ABS. Butt lifts with one resting leg helps not just on slimming waistline, defining ABS, it is also a great and effective workout for a great butt. This will lift and tone your backside effectively; this is a great alternative for squats. Why I love these three positions is that they focus and give emphasis on slimming waistline, defining ABS, and lifting buttocks. You will feel the burn big-time. If you want a low-intensity exercise that still burns calories and gives you a toned body, Pilates is your next best …show more content…
There are a lot of ways to improve cognitive skills. You can perform cognitive training by using applications on smart devices now-a-days; furthermore, you can also gain these cognitive skills by openness to experience and social connections. If you 're a busy person who prefers using applications during your free time, Lumosity is one of the best applications to train your brain; it will show you your progress which I think is a brilliant thing. Lumosity Performance Index (LPI) is where all your game scores are calculated systematically. This is where you can find all the cognitive abilities that is in the games that you will be training on: this will show you where you do excellent, your improvements, and where you struggle—where you need a little more training. From my own experience using Lumosity, this program really helps me in improving cognitive skills: speed, memory, attention, flexibility, and problem-solving. I learned new words that I may have not heard before, vocabulary builder; I get better and better at staying focused when my attention is divided, handling multi-tasking; and I can see a progress in my problem-solving, analytical and calculations. I can see where I 'm improving and where I need to train more.
Kerr (2012) states that there are 3 main types of exercise which are aerobic, strength/resistance training and flexibility exercises. Aerobic exercises will help keep the heart, lungs and muscles healthy, and when paired with a healthy diet will aid in weight loss. Appropriate resistance training will help to improve strength, posture and balance as well as causing the participant’s body to look more toned. Also the build up of muscle will aid with weight loss as at rest muscle burns more calories than inactive tissue. These exercises should be done two or three times a week. Flexibility exercises are important because if a muscle isn’t stretched then overtime it will shorten and become less elastic. Therefore joint mobility will decrease and the likelihood of injuries to muscl...
Also known as aerobic exercise, these exercises do not require fancy gym equipment. Most of them can be done within our home itself. Cardio is a most basic, yet really important exercise you could incorporate into the daily routine. Cardio exercise could range from simple ones like walking and jogging to moderate ones like swimming and running. Most cardio exercises are prolonged in nature, i.e., they must be done for a long duration of time. The main objective in all these exercises remains the same: to elevate our heart rate and make us sweat. It is much simpler than strength exercise, though it does require immense patience and willpower. However, in return of this, there are a huge number of benefits of doing cardio. Here are some of the benefits one could reap through
Every part of our body is a science. I never imagined the hidden science in the movements of the body. The science of kinesiology is the science of body movements. I grew up watching my grandma and the changes in her body as both of us got older, I could walk and balance properly while she lost it. I always felt bad when she was not able to get up and walk properly and as caring grandson I always gave her my hand. It was a great feeling for me to take care of her in her last days. Her difficulty in moving always pointed me to do something for her and I landed doing kinesiology- the science of human movements. I completed my high school at Cathedral High School in West Texas. I was an active member of National Honor Society as well as Spanish Honor Society. I held the treasurer position for one year in the society, which I felt proud of. I was not excellent at my academics, was just an average student struggling with the subjects of chemistry and anatomy. It is strange at one point of time suddenly when u come across a certain situation or an accident and u just realize your dream and...
Do you need some motivation to get off the couch and begin exercising? Maybe you have started to work out and then stopped your work out routine so many times that you cannot keep track of the number of programs you have tried. Well you are not alone. In fact, by statistics that would make you an average American. All the same, working out for the sake of health and well-being is becoming increasingly important as we continue to learn the effects of inactivity. There are many benefits that arrive from the presence of exercise in your daily routine. Improve strength, improved cardiovascular fitness, and an improved immune system are just three of the MANY benefits that come from exercise and activity. I will tell you a little bit more about each of these three benefits and how and why they can help to benefit you.
Aerobic exercise is anything exercise that elevates the respiration, heart and metalobic rate for 20-30 minutes. Aerobic exercises include running, brisk walking, swimming and cycling. Stretching and toning exercises are slow and sustained, they decrease muscle tension, improve circulation, can help relax the body, they also help focus and center the mind in the present moment. Yoga is a good example of a balanced stretching and toning program, and there is increasing evidence that yoga has psychological and well as physiological benefits. Yoga can be compared to progressive muscle relaxation where a muscle is tensed and relaxed systematically through out the body to produce relaxation response which decreases stress and tension, increases strength and balance, increases flexibility, lowers blood pressure and reduces cortisol levels (Thirthalli et al., 2013; Weiten et al., 2012), it improves psychological well-being, yoga involves concentrating on the breath and body which calms the mind by switching focus away from worries of the mind and brings the person into the present moment, rather than on the past or future. It also increases bodily awareness so the feelings of tension and stress are recognised earlier and can be reduced sooner, yoga it self is exercise and so the usual benefits of exercise are gained too (‘The psychological
There are three different types of exercise. They are aerobic exercise, strength training, and flexibility. Aerobic exercise or cardio is where a person's heart rate and breathing rate are increased. For most people, a total of thirty minutes a day for at least three days is the best. Examples of aerobic exercise is walking, dancing, swimming, or anything that gets the heart rate up. Walking is actually my favorite physical activity.
Exercise is very beneficial to everyone that wants to stay fit and to keep their health in good shape for the future. I know many people that work out just thirty minutes a day and eat healthy and they are in the greatest shape of their life. So during the times you feel fat and lazy and just do not want to get up off the couch. Think if you go to your nearest gym and workout for thirty minutes to an hour you will feel so much better with yourself, and have so much energy throughout your day.

It is the main reason why doctors and scientists recommend a consensus of about 30 minutes of exercise per day. By far, the health benefit most commonly associated with exercise is weight loss. Especially since obesity is currently plaguing the United States and nations all around the world, exercise is becoming an increasingly popular way to fight off those extra pounds. Exercise is the most traditional way to burn calories and thus lose weight. Results and progression are great motivation for most people. Exercising and losing weight is also extremely important for those looking to get healthier because it lowers the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, even some types of cancer. This is a short list of the countless benefits exercising brings to overall health. Exercise is a must for those people who strive to be as healthy they
A lot of people can call me insane, but I love working out; I also love nutrition—most of
Doing this will help my health in the long run and also in the short run. One way that it will help in the short run will be that it will improve my mood “because when you exercise, you’re actually subjecting yourself to a low-level form of stress by raising your heart rate and triggering a burst of hormonal changes (Stryker, pg. 1).” Monitoring stress is a very high incentive, especially for college students who are stressed almost all the time due to the immense pressure placed on them during the academic school year. A second way would be that it would help regulate and improve my ability to sleep. Sleep is something many students lack or do not get enough, but exercising and working out can “improve the quality of nighttime sleep, especially when done on a regular basis (Lifestyle, pg. 1)”. Research done on determining whether this is true has already been done and has shown to be correct so far. Exercise can do so many things to your body that many people are most likely not even aware
Cardiovascular fitness can also be known as cardiovascular endurance, aerobic fitness and cardiovascular respiratory fitness. In order to increase your cardiovascular conditioning you have to practice active high energy activities or active sporting activities which can be of enough intensity for getting your heartbeat into your target heart rate zone. A great little free calculator for working out your heart-rate zone can be fount at: http://exercise.about.com/cs/fitnesstools/l/bl_THR.htm
Healthy adults should aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week. That doesn 't have to be all at one time, though. Aerobic exercise can even be done in 10-minute increments. There are significant health benefits from interval training, which means exercising at your near maximal intensity for short periods of 60 to 90 seconds. Regular aerobic exercise can help you live longer and healthier. After all, aerobic exercise reduces health risks, keeps excess pounds at bay, strengthens your heart and boosts your mood.
Adding exercises into one’s daily routines can change their whole lifestyle. Many people look at exercise as being something just for people who want to lose weight or to become muscle bound, but there are a great deal of benefits that can be received from exercising regularly. Of course gaining muscle and losing fat are the two most popular reasons that usually attract people to the gym, but they make up a small part of the potential benefits that can be achieved with exercise. There are several ways in which I have benefited in my life from exercising regularly, besides just making me bigger and stronger. It has made me become more organized, helped me make better decisions, and motivated me to take on new challenges in life.
Performing planks daily allows you to be more flexible. Planking widens and stretches all your posterior muscle groups such as the shoulders, shoulder blades, and collarbone. It also stretches your hamstrings, your feet arches, and toes. If you add a side plank into the routine, you can also work on developing your oblique muscles. Flexibility means being able to perform other forms of workouts with competence.
