Obstacles in Life For many growing up, having the most luxurious or latest in the market vehicle, believe is what is all about. Obtaining the most modern clothes and wearing fancy jewelry is what many work for. In the contrary, to me being able to provide for my family was my top priority. I had to perform different types of duty as a teenager. The downside to this that it led to poor interest in education and more interest in income. As a young adult having to provide for my family instead of continuing my education was one of the biggest mistakes I ever committed. That is why education needs to be the most important priority in life since it will provide even more to your loved ones. To begin with, one of the duties I had to perform as a young adult was washing vehicles to help my family. I did this over the …show more content…
As a senior in high school, I prepared burritos every morning and packed cold drinks inside my duffel bag and take it to school to sell. I gained knowledge by observing my grandma cook for us whenever we would visit her. Therefore I was able to prepare different kinds of burritos. The drinks was the easy part all I had to do was walk to the nearest store and purchase them for half the price I would sell them for.. I had to wake up early in the morning to start preparing everything and start cooking so by the time school started I would arrive on time.School was a mile away so of course,I would get there late. I began to miss class assignments or topics taught in class and the results on my tests were horrible to my expectation. The scary part was that I was not allowed to sell anything so that would always stress me out and instead of focusing in class taking notes I was more concerned about being more precautious with staff catching me, “red handed”. Although I was not supposed to, I still continued selling food That happened all the way to
The idea of taking risks appeal to most people, but what is actually learned from the act of risk taking? In the two readings, “Breaking through Uncertainty –Welcome Adversity,” by Jim McCormick, and “Neighbours,” by Lien Chao, the benefit derived from taking risks is explored. In McCormick’s article, a parachuting jump mishap leads to his revelation that confidence and certainty can be found. Chao’s short story deals with Sally befriending an elderly couple and joining them for Canada Day celebrations, and along the way realizes what’s important to herself. Though “Breaking Through Uncertainty –Welcome Adversity,” deals with a life saving risk, “Neighbours” is more about a personal risk, something that demonstrates much greater benefits as personal satisfaction.
In a world where every individual desires to acquire money, prosper, and make a life for themselves nevertheless no part of my being aspires any of it. My life's work wants nothing more than to help other people because at the end of the day, my long list of people I have helped will be worth more than your money. The way I grew up, I would have been the same way as everyone else, but it was with the experiences I have gone through along with my favorite movie, book, quote, historical figure, and my very own personal hero which all single handedly helped mold me to the person I am glad to be today.
Living in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, our culture has naturally valued prestige and luxuries. We admire fancy items and often judge other individuals by the clothes they wear, the car they drive, and the schools that they attend. The “American Dream” serves as a motivational factor for people; believing that hard work and dedication can bring “success” to ones’ life. Although this is partially true, it is difficult for individuals in the middle class and lower class.
Theses quotes might be said once or many times in one’s teen life. Complaining about parents is one of the conversation topics among the peers. Sometimes teens feel like adults do not aware of their opinions anymore. Moreover, arguments among the family could ruin the relationship if members do not know how to deal with it. I learned how to solve problems through these conflicts and became more mature.
There’s an event in everyone's life that changes you, whether it be a simple hello or a death in the family. Tragically, mine begins with my mother marrying her second husband. The lessons I learned from this man shaped me into the person I am today. I came from a bad situation and he took my family in and and showed me that not every man is the same. Perseverance, the ability to forgive, and willingness to change your life for the better are just some of the things he taught me. If it weren’t for the little talks we had I wouldn’t be hopeful that I am, that I will turn my life around.
Many people feel that anyone can accomplish any goal, while others believe that people are limited in the goals they can accomplish. Accomplishing a goal can be difficult. Obstacles ultimately can get in the way of achievement. However, with dedication, persistence, and time anyone can achieve their goals.
We live in a materialistic culture that thrives on having "things." Yes, we must have things in order to live (shelter, food, water, etc.), but the word is misused. Our culture has become so materialistic that we forget what is really important. The "have" mode has almost become the norm, especially with our generation. Even though we subconsciously practice the mode of “being,” many people do not realize it which makes it difficult to appreciate life and all the aspects of “being.” “Because the society we live in is devoted to acquiring property and making a profit, we rarely see any evidence of the being mode of existence and most people see the having mode as the most natural mode of existence, even the only acceptable way of life” (Fromm 25). Majority of people want to be as successful and rich as possible that this idea takes over their mind and eventually lives. Every young person is obsessed with “fitting in” and having the latest and greatest items. This attitude causes adolescents to lose sight of what is important and lose touch with their emotions. Our culture needs to begin to think less about material items and being rich and more about his/her emotions and what it means to be truly happy. It is important to focus on the “bigger picture” and how one must become the best person he/she can be to benefit
Overcoming Obstacles Throughout a persons life, they are faced with different obstacles, and different challenges of all different types. My life in particular has been full of ups and downs, especially towards my soccer career. In the novel The Pact, three boys, George, Rameck, and Sam, are faced with many obstacles throughout their lives, where they must learn to overcome and achieve great success on their own will power. Essentially, I did the same thing. My soccer career has been one of my most difficult life challenges, creating the person I am today.
This research is guided by two major theories. First, Transactional Theory, which is a widely accepted theory of coping developed by Richard Lazarus and Susan Folkman. Second, the Control Theory developed by Charles Carver and Michael Scheier.
Welcome friends, peers, teachers, and parents. We are finally graduating! It has been a long four years since I first stepped in to these halls as a freshman, but yet I can’t help but feel its only been a short time in my life. Today I had two jobs to do, that’s it. The first one was to show up to this event, consider it done. The second was to give a memorable speech on perseverance and just what it means to me. So it is with that intro that i begin my speech. The dictionary defines perseverance as a steady effort to maintain a course of action, purpose, or belief, often in spite of difficulty. So it is today that I ask you what does perseverance mean to you? Each one of you has faced many difficulties throughout your lives, and this is only the just the beginning. Each and every one of us has at some point needed perseverance, and we will continue to need it in the future. When I hear the word perseverance two things come into mind, my efe class and college.
Many of the reasons behind this have already been discussed throughout this essay by stating the reasons as to why hard work and career are both more important. One of which is because social status can lead to negative affects in an individual. It is often shown through texts such as television films how a high ranking social status can ruin one’s morals. Films such as James Cameron’s, Titanic, show how people with higher social statuses can often lack the ability to show any respect at all to those whose social status is lower than their own. Due to this, a social status does not hold any information as to what kind of person someone truly is. Based on this, social status should not be viewed as more important than either hard work or a
Life Lesson As an underclassman you come into high school either thinking that the next four years of your schooling will be really easy or really stressful. To tell the truth, it can be both, whether you come into high school with a positive or negative attitude. High school is the last place you can get away with some mistakes and try again. The next four years will test your skills and responsibilities.
Failure happens when something isn't successful. Failure is a thing that all people can learn from. Failures can be used as lessons so that the failure will not be repeated again. One of my greatest failures in life that I've experienced and learned from would be from the time of my first grade year. I didn’t take school seriously when I was in the first grade and made terrible grades. After this failure, it made change the outlook on school and I started trying. I learned that I need to take school serious or else I will do bad in school. This failure lead to success in school and I started making good grades which will help later on in life.
“The failure is the mother of success” this Chinese quote said that failure is not the end. Failure is where people learn from their mistake. People cannot be successful all the time. Indeed, there are many people who learned from their failures before being successful. Each failure that people had met is a helpful lesson and valuable experience to help them become a better person.
Money has become the first priority in peoples’ life. It has become the necessity for being success. Many believe that money is the only way to success. They work hard to earn a lot of money and to make their life more comfortable and easy. Once Bill Gates said, ”If you were born poor, that’s not your fault, but if you die poor that’s your fault.” So many people run after money throughout their life to become success. Some people also believe popularity as being success. People work hard throughout their life to become a renowned person in this world and believe they need to look rich in order to be
