However, it is very important to learn about your mental health. Having knowledge about different mental illnesses, like depression and anxiety, can change the way you live your everyday life. It can help not only yourself, but also your perspective for people around you. I believe in taking care of your mental health. When you’re younger and somebody ask if you are healthy you automatically think of exercising, eating the right food, playing sports, etcetera. It wasn’t until middle school when I started to realize that I stress more about things that kids …show more content…
Slowly I began developed coping mechanisms that reduced my anxiety. I opened up about how I was thinking to the people closest to me. The people that I talked to help me realize that little things do not matter and that there is no reason to worry about the stuff that people do not notice. The advice of my family and friends helped me dropped all the unnecessary stress that I was putting on myself. Once I talked to people, I began to list small mental goals that helped me overcome my anxiety. Every time I would overthink, I told myself repeatedly that it was unnecessary. The biggest thing however, was reminding myself of where I was mentally the year before. That gave me motivation to change myself for the better. Finding a motivation was the most helpful in changing my mindset. You always have to look for the good in everything, no matter how bad it may seem at the moment. Finding the good in those bad moments will really help you improve. I told myself that I was not going to go back to be mentally unhealthy. I wanted to be able to relax and not have a constant sense of anxiety on my shoulders, so that’s what I did. I changed, and slowly but surely my mental health started to improve. It has not been too long ago that I still remember my adolescent years. I always remember the unintelligent things I did that I wish could change, but this Psychology class made me realize that all adolescents go through the same things I experienced. Adolescents are known to try to find their identity, go through peer pressure, make mistakes, and try new things. The move I picked that closely represented what adolescents go through was “Mean Girls”. Some of the scenes in the movie seem a little exaggerated, but it has happened in certain high schools even though I had not experienced it personally.
During our adolescent years, we learn many life lessons by many role models such as our parents, teachers, and characters in movies and from books. However, many books today lack the suitable characters that troubled teenagers can idolise when in desperate need.
Mental health is being aware, accepting yourself, and striking a balance in all aspects of your life like social, spiritual, physical, economical, and mental (Association, 2001). Mental health can be described as our positive interactions with the context and events in our life, and having the ability to cope with life’s stressors. Mental health problems can begin at anytime during your life (CAMH, 2010). In fact anything can make it difficult for an individual’s ability to interact effectively, and may lead into a mental health problem (Association, 2001).
Having an illness can have an affect on an individual either physically or mentally. Anyone can be a victim of a mental illness such as, children 's, adults and senior citizens, it is not rare. There are hundreds of different types of mental illnesses and with more to be discovered in the near future. Struggling to accomplish a certain assignment or not being able to speak properly, can all be signs of someone who is suffering from a mental illness. Major depression, autism, anxiety and Schizophrenia, are just some disorders that can affect an individual’s state of mind, and over time if not not cured, it could become highly dangerous, but medications and therapy play a key role in controlling it. For some individuals enjoying life becomes
During the years of 2014-2015 when I was a senior in high school, I had one of the lowest and highest points in my life that I can vividly remember. The lowest point began when I got my class rank, and I realized that it was not high enough for me to get into my dream school UT. I have always had low self-esteem but after that, it plummeted even further. However, that fall I kept hope and still applied. Around February I had found out that I was not accepted and I was shattered. During this time, it was hard for me to find motivation to do anything. All I wanted to do was sleep regardless of the time, which to me was a strong indication that something was wrong. This continued until about May when I
Adolescents are known for, or rather stereotyped as, having rebellious tendencies. These tendencies are explored in films, novels, television shows, and even studies conducted by professors and researchers worldwide. Teenage angst has been a major source of discussion for before 1595 with the publication of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Rebel Without a Cause, released in 1955, exemplifies this topic being discussed in a manner that is relatable to a wide array of teenagers. Exploring this issue while also making it relatable to adolescents rather than simply a criticism of their personalities is an admirable feat, one that Rebel Without a Cause accomplishes by making use of several techniques.
Mental health treatment can help some people recover from their illness and can alleviate painful symptoms, prevent deterioration, and protect them from suicide. It can improve independent
This film contains some classic examples of the kinds of real life issues adolescents deal with. Issues such as popularity, peer relationships, family/sibling relationships, sex, and struggles with identity are all addressed in this ninety-minute film.
Mental Health is an issue that millions of individuals are facing here in the United States. Illnesses such as anxiety and panic attacks, borderline personality disorder, drug and alcohol addiction, and depression affect the lives of so many.
Health is a complex concept, and when we talk about health we refer to body health and to the health of the mind, the health of relationships between us and those around us, the spiritual health. Looking online on one of the additional resources recommended, www.nimh.nih.gov, I have noticed that one of the symptoms of most diseases that affect a person's mental health is lack of sleep. Lack of sleep not only worsens man's mental health, but also causes serious imbalances in metabolism, immunity, general mood, and last but not least, affects the ability of learning and memorizing among students. The sleep fulfills a number of vital functions for both our mind and body. We spend about a third of our lives sleeping, which is a valuable and useful
...f good health in both areas, and learn to take care of their bodies and brains by keeping active, sleeping properly, eating nutritiously, and taking time to relax. Furthermore, people should understand that moods matter, not just to mental health, but to phsyical health as well. If someone is suffering from and emotional illness such as depression or anxiety, they should seek treatment, since evidence is mounting that these conditions can lead to physical illness and a shorter life.
Mental disorders are rapidly becoming more common with each new generation born in the world. Currently, nearly one in two people suffer from some form of depression, anxiety, or other mental health problem at some point in their lives (Editor). With so many people suffering from their mental illnesses, steps have been taken in order to get help needed for these people but progress has been slow. In the medical world, hospitals are treating those with physical problems with more care than those with mental problems. Prescription drugs can only do so much helping the mentally ill go through their daily lives and more should be done to help those who need more than medicine to cope with their illness. Mental health should be considered just as important as physical health because of how advanced physical healing is, how the public reacts to those with mental illness, and due to the consequences that could happen if the illness is not correctly helped.
Mental health is just as important as physical health in a person’s life. Mental health is critical to a person’s well-being, their ability to live a productive life and to keep a healthy family and interpersonal relationships. Mental health does not just affect the mind it also affects people’s physical health. Some physical health diseases can cause a mental health disorder and vice versa. Mental health disorders are associated with the occurrence, development, and outcome of some of the today’s most chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. When people go untreated from a mental health disorder are at a higher risk for many unhealthy behaviors such as alcohol and drug use, violent behavior, and suicide.
Our society today does not value our mental health like it should. If society would only pay as much attention to mental health, they would be better off in the long run. Think about an athlete playing a sport, they certainly understand how important physical health is. When a baseball player injures his knee, he is out and waits until it heals. But like many people, mental health is overlooked. Most teenagers do not realize that the many things like stress or eating disorders are coming from a poor mental state. They think that if they just ignore it they will snap out of it, this is not true and many times this kind of thinking will only make it worse (Change Your Mind). Mental health is not seen as important as physical health due to misconceptions and stigma behind mental health patients. By increasing the importance of personal mental health, people can reduce issues associated with mental health problems and raise awareness for people who suffer from mental health issues.
