AL Khwarizmi is one of the more a famous mathematicians in the world. He was in the sixth century, and Khwarizmi has left many publications in astronomy, geography, science, which the algebra book most important and a lot. His algebra book, which consists of two main sections contains the first two algebraic theories, which is dedicated to the theory of algebraic equations and calculations, and to resolve the various issues by this theory, and applied to engineering problems. In addition, he has a lot of theories taught today in math and other sciences such as engineering and computer science. After Khwarizmi, math is developing, and it becomes important in the life. Mathematics is the science - unchallenged - the backbone of most modern science, …show more content…
Some people think they do not need to use math in every day life, but if they look in their life, they can find many applications. According to Man Keung in the article “"Mathematics: What Has It to do with me?"” The author says “In fact, we are basically living in a world of mathematics. Mathematics is “present in our surroundings, affecting our daily lives directly or indirectly. Its past, present, or, we can even predict, its future, will always be fascinating and exciting”” (91). This quote means the math is everywhere in people life from past until future. For example, they use math when they want to go to shop. When a person gives a seller money, he or she does calculations and takes the rest of the money. In this situation, people use one or more operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. Another example of using math in the daily routine is solving problems. If a person has a problem, he or she needs to use logic. Logic is the science that studies the general rules and laws of a human right to think. People use logic to see if the thing is right or wrong. When they start to solve the problem, they need to think for serval solutions and do the best solution they find. If students have a hard assignment, they need to focus on their assignment until they understand, which shows using logic. All in all, these are some math applications people use in their daily
Math is everywhere when most people first think of math or the word “Algebra,” they don’t get too excited. Many people say “Math sucks” or , “When are we ever going to use it in our lives.” The fact is math will be used in our lives quite frequently. For example, if we go watch a softball game all it is, is one giant math problem. Softball math can be used in many
Mathematics has become a very large part of society today. From the moment children learn the basic principles of math to the day those children become working members of society, everyone has used mathematics at one point in their life. The crucial time for learning mathematics is during the childhood years when the concepts and principles of mathematics can be processed more easily. However, this time in life is also when the point in a person’s life where information has to be broken down to the very basics, as children don’t have an advanced capacity to understand as adults do. Mathematics, an essential subject, must be taught in such a way that children can understand and remember.
I also learned that mathematics was more than merely an intellectual activity: it was a necessary tool for getting a grip on all sorts of problems in science and engineering. Without mathematics there is no progress. However, mathematics could also show its nasty face during periods in which problems that seemed so simple at first sight refused to be solved for a long time. Every math student will recognize these periods of frustration and helplessness.
Mathematics is used to pay bills and to cook to give a few examples. It is also used to figure out different formulas for space. Mathematics is used for computing
Teaching math can be a grueling task for many, but not for a certain high school math teacher. Megan Patterson, a beloved high school teacher, was born in 1990 right here in Illinois and is currently working at a very small high school that only consist of around 250 students. This high school is a private school and is also a Christian school, which is why it is named Westminster Christian high school. This is her story of how she became a great high school math teacher.
Mathematics is everywhere we look, so many things we encounter in our everyday lives have some form of mathematics involved. Mathematics the language of understanding the natural world (Tony Chan, 2009) and is useful to understand the world around us. The Oxford Dictionary defines mathematics as ‘the science of space, number, quantity, and arrangement, whose methods, involve logical reasoning and use of symbolic notation, and which includes geometry, arithmetic, algebra, and analysis of mathematical operations or calculations (Soanes et al, Concise Oxford Dictionary,
Mathematics is part of our everyday life. Things you would not expect to involve math
Although little is known about him, Diophantus (200AD – 284AD), an ancient Greek mathematician, studied equations with variables, starting the equations of algebra that we know today. Diophantus is often known as the “father of algebra” ("Diophantus"). However, many mathematicians still argue that algebra was actually started in the Arab countries by Al Khwarizmi, also known as the “father of algebra” or the “second father of algebra”. Al Khwarizmi did most of his work in the 9th century. Khwarizmi was a scientist, mathematician, astrologer, and author. The term algorithm used in algebra came from his name. Khwarizmi solved linear and quadratic equations, which paved the way for algebra problems that are now taught in middle school and high school. The word algebra even came from his book titled Al-jabr. In his book, he expanded on the knowledge of Greek and Indian sources of math. His book was the major source of algebra being integrated into European disciplines (“Al-Khwarizmi”). Khwarizmi’s most important development, however, was the Arabic number system, which is the number system that we use today. In the Arabic number system, the symbols 1 – 9 are used in combination to ...
The logic helps me to think coherently and to differentiate between truth and validity. As the mathematical are always valid, there is no possibility that might contradict, as 2 + 2 equals 4 cannot be five. Moreover, he logic helps me to have a good relationship with my coworkers, and I respect that if I get the same respect for them and that leads to a good fellowship.
To the future researchers, using this study it would be helpful for them to formulate new actions and information and make it as one of their sources with regard to solving a word problem.
The prominence of numeracy is extremely evident in daily life and as teachers it is important to provide quality assistance to students with regards to the development of a child's numeracy skills. High-level numeracy ability does not exclusively signify an extensive view of complex mathematics, its meaning refers to using constructive mathematical ideas to “...make sense of the world.” (NSW Government, 2011). A high-level of numeracy is evident in our abilities to effectively draw upon mathematical ideas and critically evaluate it's use in real-life situations, such as finances, time management, building construction and food preparation, just to name a few (NSW Government, 2011). Effective teachings of numeracy in the 21st century has become a major topic of debate in recent years. The debate usually streams from parents desires for their child to succeed in school and not fall behind. Regardless of socio-economic background, parents want success for their children to prepare them for life in society and work (Groundwater-Smith, 2009). A student who only presents an extremely basic understanding of numeracy, such as small number counting and limited spatial and time awareness, is at risk of falling behind in the increasingly competitive and technologically focused job market of the 21st Century (Huetinck & Munshin, 2008). In the last decade, the Australian curriculum has witness an influx of new digital tools to assist mathematical teaching and learning. The common calculator, which is becoming increasing cheap and readily available, and its usage within the primary school curriculum is often put at the forefront of this debate (Groves, 1994). The argument against the usage of the calculator suggests that it makes students lazy ...
Devlin believes that mathematics has four faces 1) Mathematics is a way to improve thinking as problem solving. 2) Mathematics is a way of knowing. 3) Mathematics is a way to improve creative medium. 4) Mathematics is applications. (Mann, 2005). Because mathematics has very important role in our life, teaching math in basic education is as important as any other subjects. Students should study math to help them how to solve problems and meet the practical needs such as collect, count, and process the data. Mathematics, moreover, is required students to be capable of following and understanding the future. It also helps students to be able to think creativity, logically, and critically (Happy & Listyani, 2011,
What is math? If you had asked me that question at the beginning of the semester, then my answer would have been something like: “math is about numbers, letters, and equations.” Now, however, thirteen weeks later, I have come to realize a new definition of what math is. Math includes numbers, letters, and equations, but it is also so much more than that—math is a way of thinking, a method of solving problems and explaining arguments, a foundation upon which modern society is built, a structure that nature is patterned by…and math is everywhere.
As mathematics has progressed, more and more relationships have ... ... middle of paper ... ... that fit those rules, which includes inventing additional rules and finding new connections between old rules. In conclusion, the nature of mathematics is very unique and as we have seen in can we applied everywhere in world. For example how do our street light work with mathematical instructions? Our daily life is full of mathematics, which also has many connections to nature.
Logic and mathematics starting with basic arithmetic showed me how to follow steps, one at a time and one after another, to arrive at the results, one step at a time and after another. I learned that an error in one step will make all the following steps and results wrong. Mathematics like any other rule and pattern based discipline may show through experience and trial or error, how to solve problems first by following given methods and later, if needed, by combining and exploring different methods.
