In San Francisco there is a very large and extensive energy program that has lead to be one of the most energy efficient city in the world. In this essay I will be writing all the different alternative energy types in this very progressive city. The energy problem in the world is extremely dire, due to the fact that most of the worlds main fuel source is fossil fuels. This is a limited resource. If we use it all what will we do then? In addition, by using them we are not only harming ourselves, but the environment around us which will eventually break our wonderful and beloved earth. The reason why renewable energy is so important is because it is cleaner source of energy, and that we have an endless supply of them. San Francisco has been named the greenest city in the U.S since 2011 based on a study made by the Economist Intelligence Unit and Siemens. This study based its ranking in nine major areas and thirty one standards (please look at the diagram included). San Francisco obtained his prize by winning six of the nine categories, including air, energy, buildings, transport, waste, and water. The first clean source of energy I will be talking about will be solar power. Although solar energy is a very good alternative due to the fact that the sun is constantly renewable it isn’t the most potent as in it doesn't provide a whole lot of energy. Even with the lack of power people in sf can make a decent amount of energy. The solar program of San Francisco is very interesting the way it works basically is that you can buy a certain program that gives you benefits for being “greener” as in using less electricity and after a while if you save enough energy actually can get paid back by the electric company. You can also buy bundle pac... ... middle of paper ... ...s ranges from forestry, oil-rich algae, and the organic materials in industrial wastes, methane gas of electricity. ANother is bigass. with multiple ways of digesting solids and other organic feedstocks, a specific energy rich gass which usually contains 60 to 70 percent methane. THis energy is called biomass which has an increasing value in today's energy market to to the fact the it’s highly renewable and it fairly simple to acquire. In conclusion, the San francisco energy program is very different in it’’s uses and it has many programs encouraging people to become greener, Renewable energy is increasingly making it’s way in popularity in the world where more and more people are getting into it. Renewable energy is a very propersose way to help the earth. In the case of san francisco the program allows everyone to live in comfort while helping the environment. .

Instilling this new way of energy usage into off-grid communities will inevitably increase the state of living for those in cities and other well-populated areas. The change to renewable energy sources could drastically lower the pollutants currently being dispersed into the atmosphere by coal mines and other harmful power options, increasing the supply of renewable energy would allow us to replace carbon-intensive energy sources and significantly reduce U.S. global warming emissions. a 25 percent by 2025 national renewable electricity standard would lower power plant CO2 emissions 277 million metric tons annually by 2025—the equivalent of the annual output from 70 typical (600 MW) new coal plants (“Benefits of Renewable Energy Use”). Electricity production accounts for more than one-third of U.S. global warming emissions, with the majority generated by coal-fired power plants.

“The most important environmental issue is one that is rarely mentioned, and that is the lack of a conservation ethic in our culture” – Gaylord Nelson. Energy has become an extremely hot topic over the last couple of years, with arguments for our energy worries ranging from environmental to political to economical or financial problems. The variety of energy sources available for Ontarians has been a positive outcome for citizens, but the consequences of using some of these sources has not been. The situation, although severely thought through, has been the root of inflamed quarrel among people. With approximately thirteen million citizens living in Ontario, the future of the environment and sustainable energy source is questioned. While there are many different types of energy sources that Ontarians can get their power from, the Premiere of Ontario should focus on renewable energy for the sake of future generations, the economy and the province. The majority if not all Ontarians utilized energy sources originate from; nuclear power plants, hydro power plants, and renewable energy sources.
Non renewable energy, such as fossil fuel, is used all over the world. Big part of the population assumes that fossil fuel is a reliable source of energy, easy to obtain, and is relatively cheap. On the other hand, fossil fuel is a non renewable energy, which means that we can use it only once. Also, this burning fossils are not good for the environment and are the main reason of the global warming. In this era a lot of new technologies have been invented. Although not every created invention has been for good, renewable sources such as, solar, wind, and human power are a good alternative of energy. Despite some people thinking that solar energy isn’t helpful and it’s only a bad investment; solar energy is the best way to reduce the greenhouse gases and decelerate the global warming, also, is a good investment and it will help you save money in a short term, and unlike the burning fossil fuel, is not harmful for human’s health.
...ch is used to replace natural gas. He also stated that, among the equipment used to burn the biofuel, the suspension burner have the ability to exceed 99% efficiency and whole-tree burner can reduce the cost of harvesting and handling woody fuels by about 35% (Brown, 2003). Moreover, the usage of bio-energy in long term is to provide a degree of ecological balance and climate change, avoid acid rain, reduce soil erosion and minimize water pollution (Gevorkian, 2007). Therefore, biomass is environmental friendly like solar energy. Based on the research that has been carried out regarding the synthesis of gas from biomass, the gas gasifies in the internal combustion engine. The relative energy density of synthesis gas is higher than the fossil fuel under certain conditions. In addition, the relative flame speed of synthesis gas can reduce the time for spark ignition.
In this regard, city authorities all over the world are increasingly adopting energy efficiency measures in a quest to become sustainable into the future. Consequently, this has led to the emergence of the term ‘green cities’ (Aulisi & Hanson, 2004). New York City, viewed by many as an urban, concrete jungle, was recently named the “greenest city" in the United States. This is mainly because most of its residents live in energy-efficient buildings, and use public transport, bicycl...
When picking an energy resource for the topic of this paper, I bounced around a lot of ideas. Then it occurred to me that I should write about what I will be living with in about a month. My mom just finished designing and building our earthbag, solar, off-grid house, a four-year endeavor. I will soon live in a place powered by one of the most common alternative energy resources, solar energy, so I should learn more about it.
I believe the only way the United States and the world will see a large-scale transition to renewable energy sources is through education. Right now, it seems as though only a few pockets of people throughout the world are aware of the positive benefits of renewable energy sources. Not only is it better and cleaner for our environment, but the renewable energy industry could also provide a large-scale economic boost in the United States and other developed countries. I believe any negative economic effects that the transition from traditional to renewable energy may have on our economy would be counteracted by the plethora of positive effects that would come about as a result. According to ucusa.org, renewable energy already supports thousands of jobs in the United States alone.
Now days, the world is intended to be in a worst scenario ever imagined. Climates, global warming and furthermore problems. However, I have noticed new changes, universally speaking, yet renewable energy has also been popularized to our world and I addition, it became part of Sustainable Architecture. “Sustainable Architecture describes the fact that we can only exist and create with the availability of natural resources. Those resources are the foundation of our world. Sustainable architecture proclaims this fact to the world… And that is probably the most appropriate understanding of the term.”(Brooks, 92) That’s why these resources exist within our environment but only few of the people anticipated a good use for them just t increase likelihood the worlds energy efficiency and also the natural environment. Speculating Asia’s growth both in wealth and population, it has been a great risk for them consequently they had been temporizing endeavoring new ways of preventing massive energy consumptions and wastes from resources. “How can we protect our natural resource base while sustaining our socio economic gains? My answer in two words: systems and self.”(Ms. Galang, 1)
In a world where over half of the human population calls a city their home, the need to restructure and revolutionize the way we design our urban environments has never been greater. Currently, the notion that these vast metropolises of metal, concrete, and sludge could one day be fully realized pillars of sustainability is certainly laughable. However, when these same cities are constantly growing and multiplying across the globe, all the while using a greater and greater chunk of our planet’s energy, this impossible task becomes a necessary focus. To strive towards the closed, continuous loop of “true” sustainability could greatly alter the image of the modern city. Any improvement over the current state of urban affairs could carry weight, and even if that goal is not entirely fulfilled, the gained benefits would be immense.
(4) Based on this information, researchers try to utilize green energy, specifically solar energy as an alternative to fossil fuels in powering the planet. This is a step towards sustainability as they are using what’s already available (100,000 TW energy from the Sun) and trying to improve upon solar panels (make them cheaper). While the Earth’s current population require 17 TW energy on average each year, solar panels are costly. Suntech Power founder Shi Zhengrong is focusing on cutting the cost of solar by making them more efficient rather than perfecting solar panels. Moreover, Steven Chu, former U.S Secretary of Energy has increased spending on developing clean energy such as solar power, wind power and carbon capturing by US $40 billion. He wants to supply the world with such technology as other parts of the world (China, India and Western Europe) are already in the lead. (4)
Why do we need to rely on renewable sources? Most of the energy that we use today come from fossil fuels such as natural gas, coal, and oil. All of these resources are non-renewable, it can finish one day. In order to have a better world and a healthy environment for the future, people are trying to obtain energy from natural resources instead of non-renewable sources. In the lecture “Renewable energy resources” (2014), Mistry focuses on some advantages and disadvantages of renewable energy. There are different kind of resources that we can use in order to produce renewable energy. Solar power, wind power, hydroelectric power are just some of the kinds of renewable energy that might be the best options to obtain energy because they come from
Decentralization of energy system is process of dispersing energy or redistributing energy from central location. [1] Currently, in the world large centralized facilities provide final form of energy from primary energy sources, such as oil refineries and power plants. These plants distribute energy over long distances which effect the overall efficiency. Depending upon different factors like health, environmental and economic etc. energy production systems are built away from the cities or near to the cities. Decentralized energy system not only fulfill rural needs but also able to provide centralized energy production in urban areas. [2]
Constructing ‘green cities’ using the appropriate off-the-grid techniques would be a solution between human-environmental interactions. Off-the-grid methods uses little or without reliance on services but instead, uses schemes and technologies of alternative energy systems that uses renewable energy such as solar panels and wind turbines. Off-the-grid constructions tend to be costly mainly due to its upfront cost, nevertheless, in most cases, it would be cost-effective in spite of the minor maintenance cost and would also be a solution to some of the ecological concerns. Through understanding the environment, architects could ideally use the concept of eco-cities to minimise the carbon emissions and also consider self-sufficiency to resolve the issues between the production and the zero-emissions requirement.
