What is depression? Depression is a mood disorder that causes a feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Over ninety percent of the people that die of suicide have a mental illness known as depression. Depression g be caused by the death of a loved one, terminal illness, different types of abuse including: physical, sexual, emotional, and substance. Bullying and genetics also cause depression. The death of a loved one can cause depression if it’s not treated in a timely manner. While grief is a normal reaction to a person losing a loved one, grieving too much can cause one to become severely depressed. Often family and friends feel guilty because they maybe didn’t spend enough time with their loved one before the passed away. There is also the feeling of guilt if there was something hurtful said during an argument. The reason most kids are bullied is because of where they come from, their weight, race, etc. most people who are bullied have low self-esteem, which causes the depression to be even more severe. One thing people aren’t aware of is that depression can be caused genetically. A family history of depression can increase the risk of depression. Studies have shown that depression is a trait that can be inherited through generations. There was a chromosome found in more than eight hundred families with depression.
