Dear Mr. Mayor,
I am very excited that you are building a statue downtown to honor one of the great men in our nation’s history. I think it is very important to recognize important people who have gone before us like the Founding Fathers. I would like to give you a suggestion about which Founding Father most deserves to be honored in our town. I think that you should build a statue of Benjamin Franklin because he held significant offices in the colonies, influenced history and lived a life full of democratic values.
Benjamin Franklin had many important roles in the colonies. I will explain the two that I think are most important. First, He was a member of the Constitutional Convention. The constitutional convention was a big meeting that happened in 1787 to talk about changing the Articles of Confederation. This is where they made up the Constitution we have to this day. Benjamin Franklin was a very important person at the convention because he argued for the Connecticut Compromise and convinced people who were unsure to sign the Constitution.
