ESSAY QUESTION #1
What existing IT and business skills do you bring to program and what skills do you hope to acquire? (250 words or less)

The propensity to assume leadership and solve large problems has always been my foremost strength. During my senior year, I was the event coordinator of my college’s annual cultural fest and was successful in inking a pivotal deal with an external sponsor. In graduate school, I was selected as the student representative into the coveted Director’s Dream-Team, where I served as the liaison between the students and management. These opportunities gave me a platform to exhibit and hone my negotiation and presentation skills.
In the initial 15 months on my first job, I steadily worked my way up from a management trainee to the grade of a PMO executive reporting directly to the division’s Vice President. Working in the Program Management Office in tandem with senior leaders helped me fortify my critical thinking and decision making skills. My role involved analyzing project data and preparing reports using office productivity tools, primarily Microsoft Visio and the statistical packages in Microsoft Excel which I became proficient at. I was chosen to attend the IT Business Analysis workshop organized by my company on the fundamentals of UML and Use Case Analysis which helped me secure a foothold in software design.
Through the MSIM program I look forward to developing expertise in state-of-the-art data-mining techniques and data analysis tools which enable information management in large-scale systems. I believe the course will provide me an overview of current issues plaguing the IT industry and best-known strategies to mitigate them.
