“Sacrificing your happiness for the happiness of the one you love, is by far, the truest type of love.” (Author Unknown). The book “The Gift of Magi,” deals with sacrifice, on giving up something that is precious to one’s self. Christmas was arriving soon and Della Dillingham-Young was determined to acquire the most magnificent present she could ever get for her husband, Jim. She went to work slaving away by arguing with sellers about prices, as well as cutting her hair, while in the end Jim had sold his watch for his beloved Della.
Initially, Della had planned beforehand to work for months to be able to obtain that perfect gift but, being in poverty she would argue with: the groceryman, farmer, and butcher. Convincing them to bring down the prices that what they were selling was too expensive for her to afford. When they did lower the prices, Della would be full of embarrassment and would begin to blush being a woman asking to lower prices, she was afraid that they would think that she was cheap, and simply did not want to spend her money.
