Jenna Espenschied Mrs. P World Literature 10 8 November 2017 Eric Clapton Research Paper Eric Clapton the only person to ever get inducted into the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame three times. Eric is the most influential rock artist of the modern era. Eric has been through so much in his life, but he has still continued making music and to this day is still touring. Eric Clapton, born on March 30th, 1945 in Ripley, Surrey, England to Patricia Clapton and Edward Fryer. Edward was a Canadian soldier who was in England to help fight in World War II. Patricia, who was only 16 at the time of meeting Eric's father met with him at got pregnant with Eric. After finding out that Patricia was pregnant Edward went back to Canada with his wife there. Joining this group made Eric's career start going upward. During this time Eric was known as Slowhand and people were finally starting to recognize him. With the Yardbirds, Eric, and the rest of the Yardbirds got a Grammy in the year 1992. Then, as the Yardbirds music genre started to change Eric still wanted to pursue the genre of electric blues and quit the Yardbirds. Next, Eric joins the group the Bluesbreakers and in this group he establishes a reputation and gains the nickname “God.” This nickname is gained from a fan who spray painted graffiti that said “Eric Clapton is God.” After leaving the Bluesbreakers in the year 1966 Eric joins up with Jake Bruce and Ginger Baker to create the group Cream. Clapton went on tours in America with them and released three albums called Fresh Cream, Disraeli Gears, and Wheels of Fire. Even though Cream was only around for two years people today still consider them to be the most influential rock music group of this era. Eric is still touring around, but wants to stay close to home to spend as much time as he can with his daughters. Recently Clapton came out and said that he has damage to his nervous system called peripheral neuropathy. Clapton has said that it is a miracle that he is even alive right now due to his past addictions and everything that has happened so far. Eric said to Classic Rock Magazine that the pain felt like “electric shocks going down your leg”(June 15,2017). Then, in 2013 he was forced to cancel several shows from this pain. The most recent shows that he had to cancel were two shows in Los Angeles that were scheduled to play Saturday March 25 and Sunday March 26. These shows were cancelled from severe bronchitis and later that day he was seen in a wheelchair at LAX. Clapton made a speedy recovery though, and performed the shows on September 13th and September
