Introduction
An important movement has begun within the supply chain industries, due to anticipated new standard and regulations for carbon emissions. This creates both opportunities, and risks within the transportation and logistics industries. Instabilities within the supply and demand are focused determined by new and stricter regulations of carbon emissions, higher fuel prices, and client and consumer demand. These sectors often can influence the de-carbonization, in operations and through wider supply chain, process improvements. This can reduce costs, help to manage additional risks and promote new business growth.
If we focus on Aviation transportation, we can see the environmental impact and the activities that create greenhouse gas emissions, and we can then estimate their total mega-tonnes. Aviation, service providers increase our GHG emissions substantially, and play a major economic role, which contributes major sources of income throughout a global economy. If we want to measure their GHG effect, we have to then apply the needed data, create a plan, which reduces unneeded environmental impact.
“The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) is a global not-for-profit trade association representing all the major segments of the air cargo and air logistics industry – combination and all-cargo airlines, forwarders, airports, ground handlers, road carriers, customs brokers, logistics companies, shippers, IT companies, aircraft and equipment manufacturers, trade press, and educational institutions.” (www.tiaca.org/tiaca/default.asp)
Much has changed in Aviation, in terms the environmental impact and the views on greenhouse gas emissions. They have implemented many greenhouse gas emissions standards since 1974. W...

One of the major facets of tourism is transportation. The ability for people and equipment to be able to move from one place to another smoothly is not only a convenience but a necessity. Air transportation is one of the largest and fastest growing industries associated with tourism. From passenger travel to food and supply transport there are seemingly ever increasing numbers of flights occurring to help meet the demand. With the increase in flights, comes the increase of pollutants into the air, water, and soil. These emissions, as well as those from the electricity production are linked to acid rain, chemical pollution and global warming. These pollutants have effects not only in populated cities, but also in isolated natural environments as well. S...
The purpose of this report is to explain in brief to the Senior Management of a hypothetical supply chain company on how carbon emissions are being reduced. This report is structured in way to cover all areas of logistics management from sourcing of raw materials from suppliers to distribution of finished products to end customers. And it explains of how companies across different industrial sectors reduce their carbon emissions.
The topic of global warming has been looming over our guilty shoulders since the early 1900’s. Transportation is the top contributor of greenhouse gas emissions which forms a barrier in the ozone, trapping in heat and heating our planet to unforeseen temperatures, much like a greenhouse. Over 225 billion gallons of gasoline is burned for transportation in the United States alone (CNN 2013.) All the harmful emissions from vehicles are starting to add up and scientists are watching the ice caps...
In smaller markets, individuals, companies and governments purchase carbon off sets to mitigate their own greenhouse gas emissions from transportation, electricity and other sources. Individuals might purchase carbon offsets to compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions caused by personal air travel. In 2006, approximately $91 million of carbon offsets were bought in the voluntary market, representing around 24 million metric tons of carbon dioxide reductions.
US’ input in global emissions is ⅕ of the total amount in the world, and after withdrawal from Paris climate accord all of US citizens should take as much responsibilities for their lifestyles as they can. Why don't we start by replacing plane flights with car rides? Of course, in some cases it is unlikely, for example, business trips, where you have to cross the ocean in one day for important meeting, or funeral ceremony of your beloved grandmother, which cannot wait until you cross the country by car. However, the next vacation every conscious person should choose ride over flight. Surely, your family will love the road trip, but even if they won’t be joyful about this news, it will be the right thing to do. Because five of you in the plane will cause twice as much of the ponderous emissions on your trip from New York to Los Angeles than as if you go by car. This sacrifice is absolutely worth it, and everybody should consider
Air pollution is an ongoing and serious problem. From Mexico to Argentina, pollutants in the air have reached dangerous levels, with implications for both public health and the planet’s changing climate (Maxwell). There are many solutions that can be used; there are international standards that can be adopted in Latin America, clean transportation and energy generation technologies. If those who govern the countries within Latin America work to get their countries off of dirty fossil fuels, the skies will clear up and their people will breath freely. For example, “the Chilean Environmental Superintend has taken significant steps against big polluters, forty-nine sanction proceedings are underway this year, with only one acquittal. The firms in question are required to invest time and money in fo...
Throughout history, the concept of sustainability has not been prevalent in the lives of common people. Changes weren 't able to be observed and measured so there was no immediate concern about the topic. With technology and the increasingly demanding pace of living, being sustainable is more important now than ever before. Sustainability is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the future. Sustainability is made up of many facets that can be overwhelming if learned at once. Focusing on one aspect of sustainability and necessary steps needed to fully achieve it is a very effective method of applying sustainability. In the world today, a growing concern has been the carbon footprint created by aviation.
Aviation has a huge environmental impact to the environment and society, the aircraft engines releases a noise that affects human life and the particulates and gases that are released from the aircraft engines contribute to climate change and increases the global warming. Despite the emission reductions from cars and more fuel-efficient and less polluting turbofan and turboprop engines, the rapid growth of air transportation in the recent years contributes to an increase in total pollution attributable to aviation. In the European Union, and increased greenhouse gas emissions from aviation increased by 87% between 1990 and 2006. Like any other form of public mass transportation that relies on resources that are extracted from the planet for e.g. Oil, and the airline cannot be considered sustainable in the long-term too. Because of the limited resources in which the Aviation relies on, it is more realistic to think how to improve the sustainability of the air transportation rather than achieving a sustainable development. Demand for air transport is growing constantly and, if this demand is to be met with all the benefits associated, the community or society must also accept the costs like; (Pollution, Aircraft noise, Environment change, risk, and resources consumption, etc.).
To reduce emission, the owners of the Heathrow should come up with a system of policy of penalties for polluting vehicles as well as make an introduction of charges to promote using of lower emissions aircraft. They can also improve by employing using of covered vehicles for transportation and wheel washing with damping down to minimize the dust emissions.
The civil aviation world consists of two categories according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA): scheduled airline service and general aviation (FAA, n.d.). The Aviation industry as we know it today was born from General Aviation (GA), and both their histories are inextricably linked. People’s ambition to fly stretches back to ancient times, of tales and legends passed down from Greek civilizations, and a passionate drive to master the sky. It is in this same spirit that GA currently resides. The enthusiasm people have for aviation is arguably, unrivalled. There’s a strong sense of camaraderie within the GA industry, a sense of bravado that lends itself to any such death defying occupation. The current GA industry is comprised of two parts: Private operators, described as those who fly without compensation and Charter operators, describes as those who operator for compensation (FAA, n.d.). As of today, general aviation makes up more than 1 percent of the U.S. Gross Domestic Product and supports almost 1.3 million high-skilled jobs in professional services and manufacturing and hence is an important component of the aviation industry and the economy as a whole (AOPA, n.d.).
Climate change has been one of the most discussed issues in these modern days. It is prove on many researches that the increase in man-made green house gas emission can significantly affect the climate in the world, on every part of the globe. In the last few years, climate change has become the most researched subject in science. The reason is that because climate change can affect significantly to the earth and it has to be taken care of. In a business world, particularly in Automotive Industry, climate change is also one of the must discussed subject, and because of automobile is one of the factors that produce the most CO2 (Carbon dioxide), it become one issue that force automotive industry to change their product to reduce the amount of CO2 emission.
The strategy is updated annually taking in consideration both external and internal aspects and focuses on new opportunities to improve environmental performance (Qantas Sustainability Review, 2013). The main problem form Qantas is considered to be the aviation fuel, as it constitutes more than 94 per cent of the airline’s domestic carbon emissions. As a result the development of new sustainable fuel and the optimisation of fuel efficiency are seen a priority. The airline is aiming to a 1.5 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency each year until 2020. Furthermore, the company has achieved 3.2 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency and it is committed to see a 50 per cent reduction in its carbon emissions in the next 40 years through the use of new technologies and new biofuels (Qantas Sustainability Review, 2013).

This identifies the main micro-environmental influences by classifying them into six groups: Political, Economical, Sociocultural, Technological, Environmental and Legal. By applying this framework to Ryanair it is possible to summarise the key forces in the general environment (see appendix A) likely to present opportunities and threats to the organisation (Johnson & Scholes 2002).
Air travel is a huge and tremendously flourishing industry. Globalization can be defined as the integration of national and local economics, culture and societies through a web of communication, transportation and trade. The current era considers globalization as the dominant driver of almost all business due to the influence or the international market. The emerging prosperity of the global aviation industry plays a substantial role in economic growth, tourism, global investment and world trade, which are the impacts of globalization. This essay portrays the negative and positive effects of this globalization on the airline industry.
