Environmental health a discipline that practices the prevention of human injury and illness by encouraging health and recognizing harmful environmental materials, and limiting their exposure to human beings (NEHA, 2016). It is also considered a division of the public health which deals with the environmental factors that can affect the human beings and at the same time to protect them (Wikipedia E. , 2016). Healthy cities Healthy city is a term that dates back to the 19th century, it was first acquired by the European Union and later become a manner to establish public health by promoting it. I’ve been through earthquakes (1989), flooding, and fires in my area and the assistant from those offices has been immediate and effective. I would improve the preparedness at the citizen level. People need to be prepare on how to handle disasters and have a plan. We need to be aware of the hazards that can threaten jeopardize our communities’ welfare (FEMA, 2016). We have a very good emergency communication system which in case of a disaster it would display on all TVs the information and also can be listened on the radio. With the popularity of the smartphones, there are applications that can assist the warning system too. Our wellbeing depends on the environment where we live. If we are healthy we are able to build a better future for our children, and consequently, our country. Therefore, whatever we do is affecting other communities anywhere in the world. A good example is the disposal of plastic containers, which eventually end up in the sea. This has become a serious problem on certain areas of the Pacific Ocean where some islands are covered with plastic debris, and even a floating mass of plastic debris called “garbage patches”. We, personally, can make changes to improve the environment by reducing the use of water, recycling, getting a solar system for generating electricity, reducing the electricity usage, use soaps and detergents that contain no phosphates, use public transportation, plant trees, just to mention a few. At the community level we can help participating on environmental protection programs in our communities and support the laws aim to protect the ecosystem. We can apply all or some the above improvements to our place of work too. Helping improve the environment is not just limited to the community that we live
