Many people throughout the world deal with environmental destruction. Whether it is natural or man created, both end in sudden calamities.
An example of a natural catastrophe is the 1997 Red River Flood in Grand Forks, North Dakota. One of the unique aspects of the Red River is that it flows North and empties into the lake Winnepeg in Canada. However, since temperature tends to get colder the farther north you get, ice-jamming is often a concern of the Red River during the spring season. The National Weather Service began putting out warnings as early as February that a flood due to the spring melt was likely to occur. Due to Grand Forks harsh winter that consisted of a cruel blizzard, the amount of snow melts exceeded. In an effort to prevent the flood, the North Dakota National Guard dumped sand on the river in hopes to use the suns’ thermal energy to speed up the thawing and eliminate the ice-jams. Unable to control the excessive water the flood of the century began. On April 18, 1997, the Red River’s water level was at 52.19 ft high and had risen at a rate of an inch each hour following. The flood began to take out areas of the city one by one, and people with what little possessions the could grab had to evacuate immediately. After six days of flooding the river finally began to recede and people were allowed to return. The amount of filth left behind from the flood was incredible. Much of the property had been destroyed and basically everything else had been contaminated by the water. Everything that was washed out by the water turned into trash and many had to start all over again. The post-flood clean up that was taken to the dump totaled 224 million ton, which is usually nine months of garbage.
An example of a man-created catastrophe is the Tragedy of the World Trade Centers. September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America had a big effect on New York City environment, and the political and emotional landscapes of the United States. This will be remembered as one of the most shocking days in American history. Armed terrorists hijacked four passenger jets and used them as weapons against the U.S.. The attacks destroyed the World Trade Center, damaged the Pentagon and killed three thousand people. The cleanup was a very emotional and strenuous effort by fire fighters, policeman and many volunteers.
Case study: the flooding that occurred in Minden Hills in the spring of 2013, flooded the downtown core. The picturesque cottage town has the Gull River flowing through it. The river overflowed in April because of many reasons: a couple of days of rain, the third largest amount in over a century, but it also happened because the frost in the ground stopped the water from going into the Earth, the lakes and rivers being full from the spring thaw, and the rapid
Michael Jordans talent is so amazing. “Maybe this guy is God disguised”, former Boston Celtic Larry Bird said about Jordans talent. This really shows how people viewed his talent and liked the way he played the game of basketball. Michael Jordans talent is so amazing , he’s so incredible and beyond unreal. The things he did and accomplished in the basketball league shows his true talent. In 1984, at 21 years of age, Jordan made the United States Olympic Games basketball team under coach Bobby Knight. He was also selected to be an NBA all-star as he averaged 30 to 40 points per game. While when it came to Michael’s second year in the NBA he broke his foot early in the season and was forced to sit out. While having his year off from the game, he decided to go back to school to finish his final year of college. His 3rd year wasn’t all so great either as the Bulls had another losing season, but they still made it to the playoffs. Michael would also score 63 points to set an NBA playoffs record. As the 1989 season approached the Bulls had plenty of players to help Michael on the court. The Bulls would lose in the second round of the playoffs, though to an eastern powerhouse in the Detroit Pistons. As for the next three seasons, the Bulls would lose to the Pistons in the playoffs. The pistons had a great plan to keep Michael from being a terror on the court by something called the “Jordan Rules.” The Jordan Rules invented by the Pistons meant to rough him up or play him tough. Michael was pushed around by the Pistons because he wasn’t very hefty. While in the 1991 and 92 season the Bulls blew by the league not even the Pistons could stop them as the Bulls would go back to back beating the Suns and the Trail Blazers. While in between the two seasons Michael and many other star NBA players took place in the 1992 Olympics the team later became known as the NBA Dream Team. There was no chance of anyone
Natural disasters don’t just come to the earth without leaving something behind, they always have to leave memories behind. These two natural disasters had great impact on the areas they occurred. The Great Flood of 1993 and Hurricane Mitch, were both highly disastrous events. Hurricane Mitch occurred in Berlin, Honduras, and Nicaragua. A lot of people were left dead, missing or homeless after this disaster occurred. The Great Flood of 1993 also caused a lot of damage. After the flood, houses were left destroyed and farms almost completely gone, Both natural disasters had great effects on the environment, but Hurricane Mitch caused more serious long-term problems.

Someday, maybe he could return to play the game of basketball if he gains a sense of motivation (Levin para. 2). Jordan had lost the desire to play the game of basketball (Levin para. 2). Jordan wanted to relax, play golf, and spend time with his family during his retirement (Levin para. 3). Michael did not to worry about money either. He received over $40 million dollars a year. This includes playing and all of the endorsements (Levin para. 3). Micael also suffered the loss of his father, James, at a roadside in North Carolina (Levin para. 3). Jordan realized when his father died, no one can take anything for granted (Levin para. 3). Jordan had almost left with nothing to prove on the basketball court (Levin para. 4). Many critics said that no one selfish scorer could make his team champions, but Michael did (Levin para. 4). Jordan won many scoring titles in the league (7 in a row) and has also led the Bulls to the NBA Finals three times (Levin para. 4). Despite a somewhat desperate childhood, Michael Jordan enjoyed his time at school. He did his first years of schooling at D.C. Virgo Junior High School and later graduated to Lanley High School where he began practicing intensively on his basketball skills. He was accepted in the University of North Carolina through a basketball scholarship. At the university, Michael took on the challenge of driving his teammates to a level of performance that they might never have achieved on their own. He scored the winning basket in the National Collegiate Athletic Association championship game in 1982. A sportswriter describes 'the relentlessness with which Michael Jordan prodded and cajoled the other players in leading them to championship season after championship season' (Lazenby 1996:37).
Natural Disasters can occur anywhere at anytime. Some are more predictable than others, but they all bring hardship to everyone’s life. Examples of natural disasters are Earthquakes (Haiti 2010), Tornadoes, Tsunami, Hurricanes, Wild Fires, Winter Storms, Heat waves, Mudslides and Floods. Regardless of what kind of disaster occurs, bottom line, everyone needs to be prepared mentally and physically to deal with the aftermath. Education is the first step to prepare you to deal with any major disaster. Three of the major disasters that can potentially disrupt normal day to day operations in our lives, are Hurricanes, Tsunamis and Tornadoes.
Noncompliance has several negative impacts on an individual. Firstly, noncompliance to requests or instructions can hinder a child from learning. This is especially so for children who engages in noncompliance behaviours maintained by escape. A child’s learning will be affected if he is often out of the class, taking away opportunities for him to learn new skills. Thus, compliance with teacher instructions in classroom settings is critical for effective learning (Martens & Kelly, 1993). In addition, noncompliance affects social skills development as the child may learn to engage in inappropriate behaviours to gain attention or escape from demand. These inappropriate behaviours may in turn affect positive social interactions with his peers and teachers. Secondly, noncompliance also limits access to potential job opportunities, especially for growing individuals with learning and developmental disabilities. Ability to comply to instructions and requests from supervisor is a necessary skill required of an employee. In addition, noncompliance are often made worse when individuals engage in aggression or self-injurious behaviours to escape from demands. Noncompliance, coupled with inappropriate behaviours, ...
As well as for the natural disasters that have happened in the past like hurricane
Many people assume that the environment is not in danger. They believe that as technology advances, we do not need to worry about renewing natural resources, recycling, and finding new ways to produce energy. They state that one person in the world does not make a large difference. In reality, each individual's contribution greatly affects our environment. Our natural resources are slowly disappearing, and we must work together to save them and the Earth from ruin.
