As a professional I have identified several position in the field of public health which I have drawn interest in. With high goals and inspirations to obtain the ideal job with an agency hard work and knowledge remains key. Being a new graduate the competition of many whom may have applied for the same positon becomes a challenge. As with any positions there’s a basic structural plan. With public health the infrastructure surrounds that of assessing and responding to the health needs of the community. This can’t be accomplished without the assistance of the organizations, health department’s even federal agencies as they play significant roles amongst. With public health being a critical element among the health care system the utilization …show more content…
Evaluate effectiveness , accessibility, and quality of person and population-based environmental health services 10. Research for new insights and innovative solutions to environmental problems Among the core functions and essential services I would fit within the core function of assessment, and both core functions. As my desire is to obtain a position within an entry level community educator position. It would be pertinent within this position to know, control, prevent communicable diseases, and educate individual’s communities, and groups about good health in order to be able to promote healthy lifestyle choices and mitigate health risks. Entry Level Career Goals An entry level position is a position in which we as new graduates are faced with at the time of graduation. This type of position is a job in which is typically designed for recent graduates in which doesn’t require experience in the field of choice or profession. As I approach closer to graduation I have begun to job seek to prepare myself for the importance of what would be necessary to place me above other applicants. The first thing in which I feel that I can do is to prepare myself, as a recent graduate I must sell myself due to the fact that I don’t have an extensive work history for the position in which I may apply. My resume is the beginning craft of my work story as it represents me. My interest as an entry level graduate is that of a Community Health Educator. An epidemiologist is one whom studies the causes and effects of health disease conditions among the population, more of a detective of diseases. I have begun taking the necessary steps by completing my bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and the last step would be to obtain my Doctoral degree. I want to increase my career growth and work for the CDC one day, however I know that I have to take smaller steps and continue to set goals. So progressing my career as a mid-level epidemiologist and in approximately five years advancing within a management area of epidemiology for the Center for Disease
According to Allender, Rector, and Warner (2014), public health is a combination of both an art and a science (2014). The mission of public health nursing is to promote health, prevent disease and ultimately prolong life (Allender et al., 2014). In order for this to occur an assessment must take place. An aggregate or community assessment begins with a collection of data. This includes: the community’s health needs, risks, environmental conditions, financial resources through local census data, and a windshield survey (Allender et al., 2014). Through public health nursing, communities can collectively come together to help promote an overall better health standing.

We are living in the most advanced era of science since human existence on earth. Be it engineering or health science, we have been facilitated with the blessings of scientific innovations. But, irony is, the health sector still lags far behind due to many adversities. During my clinical internship, I witnessed the sufferings of many patients which intrigues me to be a researcher, not just a clinician. Due to my parent’s occupation, I have been living in hospital area since my childhood. From that early moment, seeing the hapless poor people who even can’t afford a penny for their health, I was determined to be a doctor. But now, I realized I have to be a researcher to find out the best yet affordable management protocol for diseases.
Many people have never heard of an epidemiologist, epidemiologists are responsible for studying and helping control patters of injury and disease in the human population. I found epidemiology to be very interesting because I did not know such a career existed. It is the perfect mixture of the health and science field which intrigued me to learn more about what they do. I would love to study how specific epidemics can impact humans and hopefully be able to find a vaccine for an epidemic one day.
From there, “the minimum educational requirement to work as an epidemiologist is a master’s degree from a school of public health. Some jobs require a doctorate” (“Institute”, 2009 p. 23). Most jobs require a strong background in statistics and the master’s degree to have an emphasis in epidemiology. Any growth within the field usually requires a doctorate. However, simply having a master’s in public health does not guarantee a career in epidemiology. Many other factors are required or heavily encouraged. To determine these factors, current epidemiologists were asked how they achieved success in their jobs in a 2002 survey conducted by Ross Brownson, Jonathan Samet, and Stephen Thacker. The most common positive comments were “the choice of institution from which a scientist graduates, the choice of hot research topics, and hard work. For many persons, access to a strong mentor has been noted as one of the most important career advantages.” (Brownson et al., 2002). Many also stated that an intense curiosity was needed to be successful. In addition, due to the unpredictability of disease, epidemiologists must be willing to work unconventional hours. Therefore, epidemiology is not an easy career to begin. Nonetheless, it can be a very rewarding career. Most people choose epidemiology because they
My biostatistics & epidemiology courses in medical school turned out to be my defining professional moment. I discovered my passion in research methodology and decided to pursue a future career in epidemiology ever since. My enjoyment of mathematics, and passion for medicine made me appreciate how epidemiology is an artistic and basic part of medicine in general, and public health in particular. I look for pursuing a master’s degree of public health (MPH) specializing in the field of epidemiology.
...forming bench research at Barry University and Weill Cornell Medical College in the Traveler’s Research Fellowship, I have been exposed to the side of medicine where scientists work every day to find cures for diseases and save lives. Experiencing different aspects of medicine has made me a more competent individual to thrive in this field and has deepened my interest and passion to pursue medicine as a career.I believe that those who fight with so little against so much truly need others to help them in their struggle. Being a physician is not only becoming a successful professional. I will work hard to bring about necessary changes to end social disparities, so that more groups in society receive the best healthcare. By making a difference in their lives, I will receive rewarding experiences that are worth all the hard work and sacrifice my chosen career requires.
Life’s experiences, work, and education have prepared me to further my education. I will achieve this goal with the ability to analyze situations, make informed decisions, and provide my patients with the best evidence based care possible. I will also have the ability to impact change in quality improvement, policy and procedure, and overall patient care with evidence based
As someone who has many aspirations in life, I understand having both long and short-term goals is important. One of my long-term professional objectives includes being a community service manager at a health center. With this I am hoping to work with many other healthcare professionals to coordinate health programs and initiatives to improve the health of communities. Having a background in health promotion alongside the leadership and management skills and the real world experience that I intended to gain from this program will give me all I need to make this
I feel that my perception of public health nursing has grown exponentially. Prior to this semester, I had not considered a career in this concentration of nursing. Through clinical experiences, I have practiced many nursing skills. At the Montclair Community Medical Clinical, I was able to administer Tdap (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) vaccines as well as help with preliminary check ups by obtaining vital signs. I have been able to administer Tuberculosis Skin Test (Mantoux Test) to preschool level children and adults. I have been exposed to home health visits by attending orientation at the Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) and by shadowing a public health nurse during a home health visit in Victorville, CA. I have also had the opportunity to do teaching and first aid at the third annual Montclair Country Jamboree.
In every company or organization, no matter how big or how small, there will be employees and someone in a supervisory position to guide them; perhaps a manager. Being an employee can be a learning experience and if the company is the right fit for the employee, a career with the company can flourish. For example, an employee can start in an entry-level position and climb the corporate ladder to an executive position growing as the company does. An entry-level employee who is aware of the policies, culture, mission, and goals of an organization can move forward by taking advantage of continuous learning, knowledge management, and informal and formal training. Therefore, an entry-level position can be a great way to start a career.
Beitsch et al. (2006) also conveys the main functions of state public health institutions, which include the assessment of diseases, policy development, and the commitment to health protection and promotion activities. While Brumback and Malecki (1996) reveal that the role of public health agencies is to assess and analyse public health problems, form policies, layout development, and implement

Policies must be created before training can ensue. Health educators left with the task of achieving sustainable development should not micro-manage the process. Above all, community members must understand and appreciate how personal health impacts the environment, economy, and society at large.
The Schulich Interfaculty MPH Program emphasizes public health leadership, policy and sustainability. What are your career aspirations in public health and how will our MPH facilitate these aspirations?
My passionate about preventive medicine continues throughout my medical school, I volunteered at the ministry of health polio eradication campaigns, where we went door to door across the rural areas of my city sought to vaccinate every child aged five or under. Later in 2005 after finishing medical school, I had to make a huge career decision, to finalize my list for the Assuit university residency match. I did my search and asked advice of my seniors. Furthermore, because of the community and preventive medicine had long
