Recommended: Negative Effect of English language as national language

The amount of money it takes to be a country without an official language is astronomical. The latest research show, “English and Spanish are just two of nearly 400 languages spoken here” (Ross 1). For many years now the Untied States has been one of the most diverse places in the world. With so many languages spoken here businesses and other obligations have to use translators to negotiate with one another. This is why many people agree that, “The U.S. Congress and individual states should adopt legislation making English the official language of government, so that government business should be conducted in English, with common-sense exceptions for services related to health and safety” (Mujica 47). As of today the national debt is up to nineteen point one billion dollars which is why many Americans live in fear right now. There are many of programs that could be cut down to lower the debt. Making English the official language is just one of the multiple that could. Immigrants agree that learning English is the only way to get the full effect of the American dream. Angela Hernandes thinks that making the English the official language, “… would put you through a better education” as along with many other immigrants (Vazquez 2). Native American and non-native American citizens voted on if English should become the official language of the United States and it displayed, “polls show that 86 percent of the American voters and 81 percent of immigrants support legislation to make English should be the official language of the government” (Mujica 47). With both sides agreeing in the eighty percentile one would think it would not be an issue on making English the Nation’s language, but the issue of making it the official language is where hurting people’s pride come into effect. This is why having an official language has not been made into a law
