In order for an engineering concept to be considered innovative it must be a new method or product; but it can also be a modification to an existing method or product. Generally the function of innovation is to overcome a new obstacle or to improve upon a current solution to any design. For the purpose of this paper innovation will not be defined only as an improvement. However, the innovation may cause new problems to arise. Given this situation the engineer may not have taken all the necessary steps to ensure the success of the application of the new design. In this paper one such engineer (William LeMessurier) and design concept will be discussed. The definition of innovation in the engineering field will be developed and the question of whether or not there are additional obligations imposed on the engineer as a result of innovation will be addressed.
It was previously stated that innovation produces new problems which still holds true, but the statement may cause confusion given the definition of innovation as compared to the definition of invention. Invention is the generation of an idea while innovation is the attempted implementation of that idea. Having established general definitions an expansion on the definition of innovation is needed. An idea cannot be considered innovative if the application is unsuccessful. In order for a concept to be considered innovative it has to meet the design criteria. An innovative design must possess or more of the following characteristics: unusual, ground breaking, novel or a significant transformation from the previous design.
In the field of engineering the distinction between innovative and non-innovative designs is based mostly on pioneering. The purpose of an engineer is to improv...

...tated that the night welding was the result of “an upgrade to reflect a recent change in the NYC building codes”2. This statement was deceitful but not irresponsible. The public health, safety and welfare were not ignored in association with the Citicorp design. Precautions were taken and information was shared among those in a position to make an impact. Informing the public of a design flaw would most likely cause panic and great economic loss. The engineer LeMessurier acted responsibly on his part. As the lead engineer public relations and press releases are not his responsibility.

I have chosen the business profession topic of higher education administration. I am extremely familiar with this profession; as it is the job that I currently hold. There is a plethora of different activities and task that are dealt with on a daily basis within this profession. Some of these items consist of assisting both full and part time staff and faculty, maintaining order within budgets and finance, including all purchase orders and check requests, facilitating student awards, including scholarships, staffing and training within the department, as well as dealing with public policy and laws within the college. It is immensely obvious that this job would keep anyone busy. This alone is one of the reasons I love this profession so much. Each day brings something new, and important group of items to accomplish. Anyone who holds this job, would go into work everyday knowing that the tasks that they are about to perform, will create a difference to not only to the departments and its students, but will also make a difference within the entire college. This person alone has the responsibility of making ethical decisions every single day as well as watching out for others who may need help being pointed in the proper ethical direction based on their knowledge of the school’s ethics plans that have been put in place. If someone were unaware of the ethical standards in this profession, there is a lot of room for things to head in a corrupt direction rather quickly.
E. I. du Pont de Nemours and company (known as DuPont) has grown to become a global industry leader in a variety of fields. It appears DuPont has done so by following the seven rules of innovation. This paper will discuss the seven rules and how DuPont implements and utilizes them.
This paper will evaluate the role that ethics plays in decision making. I will analyze decision-making techniques that can be applied to different types of organizations. Next, I have selected the Albuquerque Veteran Affairs Medical Center, where as a result of unethical decision making there were negative consequences. Using two different decision making techniques, I will compare and contrast how using the techniques may have resulted in a positive consequence.
The book Design Driven Innovation and the classroom material complement each other very well. The basic theory behind the book is that innovation is one of the most important aspects when dealing with competitive advantages within specific markets. Also, every product and service within all available consumer and industrial markets has a meaning. These meanings are commonly mistaken as fixed, “The common assumption, however, is that meanings are not a subject for innovation: they are a given.” The majority of our class discussions have focused on how to go about designing and implementing new strategies in order to change those meanings. Companies such as Nintendo, Apple, Artemide, Whole Foods Market, Alessi, and many others discussed in the book demonstrates that meanings do change. When technological breakthroughs occur, product and service meanings take on a whole new look.

Engineering careers create millions of jobs, all specific to the minds of mathematic and scientific individuals. From the beginning of humankind, engineering has been prevalent in society. Every day, engineering exposes the world to revolutionary structural, biological, and chemical advancements. Some of these innovations change how the world functions. For instance, the creation of suspension bridges gave way to fluent travel, and the design of compact batteries allowed for advancements in technology. Engineering has a diverse history, rigorous education requirements, and genuine real world applications. Two notable forms of engineering are civil engineering and chemical engineering.
We have reached a point in time where the antediluvian ways have either been completely forgotten or are simply ignored for loss of necessity. This fast progressing world owes everything to the researchers and innovators responsible for the ever changing paradigm of technology. My capability as an engineer, however, to be truly able to understand how the various design aspects behind each innovation, helping me ponder over the numerous ways in which it can be implemented for technological betterment is what makes me stand apart. Right from my childhood, I have been fascinated by bicycles, motorcycles, cars, mechanical structures and basically anything that had virile relations; this was mainly because of the automobiles and other vehicles in movies that always used to drum in a sense of amazement that used to reverberate in my memories long after. It was only a matter of time before I came to realize the sheer brilliance behind every design, the immense perfection engineers strive to achieve and the amount of hard work and dedication required to impeccable levels in the whole process. I wanted to be a part of it and it was then that I decided what was worth doing with my life. I chose Mechanical Engineering as my major in my Undergraduate study and frankly, the field never ceases to amaze me.
1997). By reviewing the literature on learning and innovation, we try to answer the following
Innovation is an object that was successfully implemented in production and making a profit as a result of scientific research or discoveries made qualitatively different from previous counterpart. The term innovation and disruptive innovation are similar. The innovation process is associated with the creation, development and dissemination of innovations.
1).Innovation Management:Innovation Management is the form of looking into future, of being creative, imaginative .It is used in the growth of product and also organizational innovation. It also includes tools which allows higher management & engineers to communicate with basic understanding of goals and its processes .Its main focus is to allow the organization to react quickly occurring within an organization, using its efforts to implement new ideas or its products. It also involves persons in contributing to the development of the companies manufacturing and also its marketing. Through development also innovation process can be done. There are two types of process involved in innovation management one is pulled and the other is pushed. Pushed process is the one in which the organization uses its technology to discover profitable applications. Pulled process is the one in which the focus is mainly in developing the efforts to find the solutions. There are two phases in innovation management .First phase includes design of the innovation and second phase includes the implementation. Internal bench marking can be established to measure the innovation. Managers should focus on ones attention on innovation cause to be necessary to infer something from information received on the complexity.
One of the most integral qualities of an entrepreneur as well as that of a successful business is the degree of innovation it possesses. Innovation refers to the creation of new ideas, improvement of existing production processes, and effective problem solving. Innovation allows for increased efficiency in a business, which in turn increases its supply potential and productive capacity. Being innovative may involve either improving upon old methods o...

Nowadays, engineering has been reduced to something less than simple. It’s still a hard and long process, but it has been made a lot more efficient. Smaller and smaller innovations and inventions are being made. Small, paper thin, portable microscopes, water wheels, and devices that can display yo...
