To beat the challenges, it must take courage to put up with them. In the book “Ender’s Shadow” by Scott Card, we see each character have a challenge. Some pass through these challenges, but others fall behind. Bean, the protaginist of the book, was fighting for his life by trying to get some food on the streets. Later in the story he goes to Battle School and Command School. But to get where he is, he deals with a lot of challenges from the streets, Battle School, and Command School. Bean is advanced for his age. He used Poke, a leader from a crew and named “Bean”, as a method of him joining …show more content…
Bean instincts was to analyze who had power and who was afraid of whom held power. From the time being, he found that the teachers had the power over the students. The launchies acknowledge Bean’s intelligence which made him distant from the kids until he started slowly getting the respect he wanted from the launchies except from the teachers. The teachers were aware of Bean’s abilities. They would test him to see if he ever fell for them. In the book, Captain Dimak says, “He knows it isn’t a game. He doesn’t want us analyzing the working of his mind”.(145). This is all a chess game for Bean. He gets around these obstacles and gets what he wants without giving something important for him. Another challenge Bean had was showing Ender he can be a leader. In the book, Ender states,” You’re late, Bean, and you’re still rinsing. I’ve already got flash suit down in the gym. All we need now is your ass in it...”.(268). Bean always wanted to show that he can be good as Ender. But after, Bean was trustworthy and reliable for Ender. Before leaving Battle School to Command School, Bean last challenge in Battle School was Achilles comeback. Achilles started to shout about Rotterdam and Bean replied,” Here in Battle School, we don’t tell stories about home and we don’t listen to them either. So I’d appreciate it if you never spoke again of anything that happened in Rotterdam, not while you’re in my army”.(369). Bean showed power and leadership over
Bean moves on to Battle School and meets Ender Wiggin, another focus point of the army’s training camp. Ender is promoted to Command School, and Bean inherits the Rabbit army. Shortly after, Bean is sent to Tactical School and then to Command School with Ender, with nine other students. Command school is in an old asteroid that had originally been a Bugger base. Bean uses his higher intelligence to figure out that the practices are actually real battles, fought for real with IF starships and fighters far, far away through a special ultra-high-speed communi...
From these lines we see that Achilles does not understand the importance of being a team and working together. He wants to be the boss and
Life is a struggle. All through their life meet an obstacle that they struggle to overcome, no matter what walk of life you will face struggle. Some struggles are ongoing and can only be overcome by the perseverance of those willing to fight to better themselves, and those they fight for. We see this in "The Street" by Ann Petry and "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt. Wherein the characters presented struggled to overcome the obstacle of poverty, poor living condition, and malnutrition, and ultimately persevered. When met with an overwhelming obstacle to succeed and overcome it, one must persevere and only then through their actions and strength of character will they overcome the obstacle at hand.
Bean and Ender shared a wonderful gift of intelligence that eventually led them to succeed. Before they even made it to battle school they were labeled as humanity’s last hope. Time was running out, the bugger war was rapidly approaching. Because of their genius, Bean and Ender were constantly being pushed ahead of everyone else in battle school. Colonel Graff was breaking all the rules to make sure that the boys got the proper training before they were sent to command school where their actions constituted life or death. Colonel Graff knew that Bean was too smart to be analyzed. He even claimed Bean was, “Analyzing us.” (Ender’s Shadow pg146). Bean and Ender were part of a rare breed that used their brilliance to serve them well in their world, and...
Throughout life many people face difficulties. Depending on the person’s strength some will get through tough times, but some will fail to overcome them. Two books where characters have to face many challenges include: Their Eyes Were Watching God and The Book Thief. These two stories deal with people overcoming the difficulties faced throughout everyday life. Some difficulties include racism, religious discrimination, and dealing with others’ cruelness or kindness. Examples from these books prove that the characters have challenges throughout the stories to overcome. In the face of adversity what causes some individuals to fail while others prevail?
In both novels, the characters represent certain kinds of individuals in today's society. They encounterjealousy, as well as many other conflicts within themselves, and human nature. Ultimately, these two novels deliver the inner conflicts of our society.
Adversities are often given a negative connotation and view, as most consider them to be hurdles which impede progress. Nevertheless when taken in and accepted under a positive light, adversities can serve as stepping stones through which an individual can better their character. In the face of looming obstacles individuals who persevere come out of the situation as stronger, determined, and more hopeful for the future.
I came into this class under the impression that I already wrote well enough and wouldn’t need to improve. However, as I progressed through the semester I learned that there is always room to grow. The first paper I produced was not at the level I was hoping but after I actively decided to improve my writing my papers became much better. Looking back on my work in the class I wonder how much my writing has changed and where I still have room to improve. Without evaluating my work I can’t hope to become any better. Through this class I have grown much as a writer but there is still more I can learn.
If everyone thinks that without struggle, it is easy to obtain their goals that is entirely false. Struggle comes from the progress of our success and achievement. It is an indication that we poured all of our time and patience into the things we pursue. Jeannette Walls, the author of The Glass Castle, explain her struggles. She survives by finding foods from the trash can and earns money by babysitting, exchanging scrap metal, finding jobs, and from her parents. As a graduating student from high school, receiving my diploma is an indication that I ...
1. What prompts Morrie to tell Mitch how he wants to die and what is the significance of his desire?
First of all, Ender was known throughout the book to have great potential. He wasn’t an ordinary kid. He didn’t even have to pay attention in class, like in chapter one it said, “The teacher would know of course, that he wasn't paying attention, but she wouldn’t bother him. He always knew the answer..” Everyone knew he was outstanding. Even his classmate, Bean said so when Ender was explaining how the teachers were trying to break him. “You’re the best, Ender.”, he said as encouragement. On top of all that, Ender had entered Battle School at the early age of six and was constantly promoted early. He was youngest to ever become a commander of his own army. He was given many difficult challenges to face in the battle room, challenges that no one else could handle. No matter how badly these ‘games’ messed with his brain, he never failed to win. He was later graduated to Command School. This made him the youngest graduate of Battle School. Ender, was truly a genius. His strategic victories, triumphs, determinatio...
Sheryl Sandberg suggests that life is nothing but a challenge and that one must face obstacles before they taste the sweet fruit of success. Some individuals may consider the words challenge and obstacle as having similar concepts; however, when an individual looks in between the lines of women's work they can clearly see two
obstacles that are in front of us.” Most people, during their time in this world, face a challenge or
“A traumatic experience robs you of your identity,” says Doctor Bill, an author and business entrepreneur. In the book “Night” written by Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, Elie describes his life during the traumatic event. Elie was taken from his home in Sighet, Transylvania in 1944 to be put into a concentration camp. He was only 15 at this time. Throughout the book, you can clearly see how Elie’s identity is altered in many ways, for worse as well as better, as more and more terrible things occur to him as well as others.
The obstacles which we must face are not there to hinder our daily life. They are there to provide countless opportunities to obtain greater success. In order to be successful we must look at every obstacle as a new opportunity.
