The Enders Game written by Orson Scott Card provides understanding of the characters and their relationships with others through indirect characterization and diction. Orson Scott Card uses literacy devices and specific word choice to let the reader draw conclusions about the characters and the relationships between Peter and Ender, the symbolism of the bugger mask/bugger-astronaut game, and the foreshadowing of Peter and Valentines death.
The novel Ender’s Game is written by Orson Schott Card. It is about a young boy who is sent to battle school. He meets friends and makes adversaries. In battle school, out in space, Ender, the young boy is a genius and is taught many tactics to destroy their prime enemy the buggers. He excels in school and battles his way into command school before the required age. There he is told he is battling buggers in simulations or is he? Throughout the novel, Ender is manipulated, bullied, and isolated, which creates many themes and messages. In this novel Ender’s Game the main theme is life is a game. Three characters that best prove this are Ender, Peter, and Bonzo.
In the story, six close friends are persuaded to go to war to serve their country by their schoolteacher, kantorek. They go through the necessary training under the, malevolent sergeant Himmelstoss. The friends dislike the training. Their sergeant is very arrogant and tortures Paul and his friends, but after realizing his mistakes he tries to get along with them. After, reaching the battlefront, most of Paul’s friends die or are injured in cruel ways. Especially, Kat was shot in the head. Now, Paul’s friends’ no longer believe war is noble, and what is the point of going to war. As war continues, they live in constant alarm. They never know when the next attack was going to happen. This novel depicts the soldiers’ day-to-day experiences on the front, including violent scenes of battles, gas attacks, and loss of youth.
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card is a book about children, but the kids in the book don’t act anywhere near their age. I was introduced to this book in eighth grade and immediately loved it. It is a 1985 military science fiction set far in the future. The book is about the preparation for a third invasion of the “buggers”, a insect-like alien. The need for fighters is greater now than ever and children are chosen to be the ones going into battle. Children are carefully selected and the chosen ones are sent off to battle school. In doing so many things are taken from the special few, such as loss of innocence and the ability to be a carefree child in general. Ender’s Game explores themes of loss of innocence just as To Kill a Mockingbird did.
The main character in Enders Shadow is Bean. He lives on the streets of Rotterdam, in the allies and under steps. Like many other children living on the streets, it is very sparse to find food. Most survive by the leftovers they find in the trash. Bean, being the smallest of the children was the skinniest of them all. He was extremely small. He was on his last few days of life and was so weak he gave up on finding food. That very day a crew leader named Poke (crews were a group of children that shared the food that they found and they had crew leaders) gave Bean 7 peanuts and she asked for his name. But he said he hadn’t received a name, so they called him Bean. There were food shelters that gave food out every morning but crews with young children couldn’t get in because of the older children that were bullies. And most of the time bullies would come and take food from the crews instead of beating them up. Bean had a plan to threaten one bully to protect the crew and In return he would be allowed to live. They choose to pick the bully named Achilles because he was born with a bad leg and he needed the crew for his safety. They jumped Achilles and held a rock over his head and told him their plan and he agreed to go along with it but Bean told Poke to kill him as and example to the other bullies, but Achilles was smart and he persuaded them to let him be there protector.

In Night, by Elie Wiesel, a rather prevalent theme of the novel is the idea of silence in place of justice. This is exhibited numerous times throughout the book, usually following a tragic incident where, in a modern society would be answered by punishment of the wrongdoer, but is instead answered by nothing.
The main characters are Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, his brother Peter and sister Valentine. Peter is murderous boy, bullying Ender and telling him and Valentine that he will kill them. [9] Valentine is the exact opposite of Peter, being kind and protective, watching over Ender. [8] Ender is told to be a mix of the two of them. All three are very smart and intuitive, the book calling them geniuses, and children of geniuses. Bean and Petra are two students at Battle School who become Ender’s friends and help him eliminate the Buggers. Bean is small with quick reflexes, a good soldier whereas Petra is a good leader, without any fear. These
“A traumatic experience robs you of your identity,” says Doctor Bill, an author and business entrepreneur. In the book “Night” written by Holocaust survivor, Elie Wiesel, Elie describes his life during the traumatic event. Elie was taken from his home in Sighet, Transylvania in 1944 to be put into a concentration camp. He was only 15 at this time. Throughout the book, you can clearly see how Elie’s identity is altered in many ways, for worse as well as better, as more and more terrible things occur to him as well as others.
The chapter begins with German soldiers at rest after fourteen days of fierce battle on the Western Front. A double ration of food has been prepared so the soldiers are eating their fill. Paul Baumer, the protagonist and narrator of the novel, watches in amazement as his friends, Tjaden and Muller, eat another helping; he wonders where Tjaden puts all the food, for he is as thin as a rail. Baumer is only nineteen years of age. He enlisted in the German infantry because Kantorek, his high school teacher, had glorified war and talked him into fighting for the fatherland. Kropp, Behm, and Leer, former classmates of Baumer, were also persuaded by Kantorek to join the infantry. They are all now fellow soldiers along with Tjaden, Westhus, Detering, and Katczinsky.
Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel The Black Arrow depicts the life of Richard Shelton, a man on a quest to rescue his lady, obtain justice for his father’s death, and become a knight. The book takes place during the War of the Roses and spans from May of 1460 to January of 1461. Richard and his companions venture through and around medieval England which at the time is under the reign of Old King Henry VI. After an ambush on Sir Daniel Brackley from the outlaw fellowship known as the Black Arrow, a poem is posted to explain the attack. This poem makes Richard, a ward of Sir Daniel; question the death of his father. While on an errand for Sir Daniel, Richard encounters a fugitive named Joanna Sedley dressed as a boy under the alias John Matcham.
There are numerous pivotal aspects of the book. For one, the use of children as commanders is crucial. Graff, Ender’s command teacher, explains“You're forgetting the research we've been conducting. It may not be final in
Going into this course, I felt that the reading and writing skills I learned in high school were very beneficial in preparing me for an English college course. In high school, I was enrolled in GATE and AP English courses. In these classes, I was assigned several readings and was taught to actively read by doing annotations. I was to summarize the writer 's main points, to write down my own opinions, or to connect it to any personal experiences. These annotations helped me understand the writer 's message better because I was able to break down the things the writer said and only focused on the important points. Then, I was also able to form my own opinion on that topic by deciding whether I agreed or disagreed with the author’s opinion. Moreover, I used evidence from the text to support my argument.
“Ender’s Game”, by Orson Scott Card, is a military science fiction novel that narrates the story of a boy named Andrew “Ender” Wiggin and his predetermined life to save humanity. Set in the future, humans are at war with an alien insect race dubbed the “buggers.” The buggers have already invaded Earth two times previously and did not succeed because of Mazer Rackham, the general that won the second invasion. Expecting a third invasion of the buggers, the International Fleet (I.F.) has trained child geniuses at very young ages through games that gradually increase in difficulty including the zero gravity battle rooms in preparation for them to become commanders of the Third Invasion.
