Afghanistan, United States of America, and Iraq are all various places where violence takes place due to various obstacles people face in their lives. People often choose the path of violence because they lack the choice to choose other options thus forming violence as a priority. In Ender’s Game by Orson Scott, Ender Wiggins, a boy who is known as a different child since he was a third, was put through various scenarios where he is impacted by the lack of options in order to face everyday problems. Therefore, Ender realizes that the obstacles he faces pushes him to express his emotions in a violent form due to the lack of options.
As Ender faces various obstacles that affect his mental state, he portrays how his use of violent actions is affected by the very few options he has. Firstly, Ender’s pursuit of victory is stalled as it causes him to expose his feelings in a form causing destruction. After playing the level repetitively he thought to himself, “I hate this game. It isn’t fair. It’s stupid. It’s rotten…..He jumped at the giant’s face, clambered up his lip and nose, and began to dig in the giant’s eye. The stuff came away like cottage cheese, and as the giant screamed, Ender’s finger burrowed into the eye, climbed right in, burrowed in and in,” ( Scott 52 PDF Version). Due to the lack of choices after repetitively losing to the giant, Ender’s next actions were based on violence as he realizes that the giant is trying to affect his feelings thus forming the solution that he must kill in order to pursuit victory. Secondly, Ender’s emotions give away as he faces the obstacle of “overcoming” the game, thus only resulting in his anger being released. Ender grew tired of the complaining as he shouted, “Ender slammed his ope...

... his entire journey was to prepare for this war however, as he was outnumbered this caused him to use destruction as his only source of hope due to the fact that any other option would result in a disastrous toll upon Ender’s army.
In conclusion, when Ender is put in tight scenarios where he has very few options to choose from, it results with his emotions being expressed in a violent form. As a result, Ender’s mental state is affected by the violent actions taken upon Ender by showing the effect it has on the mind and how it effects one another. The effects upon Ender’s physical state results with him choosing to use violent acts in order to avoid the harm that is brought upon physical combat. Life is always based on decisions and many of these decisions are based on basic emotions like happiness, sadness, etc, however many of them result with others as well.
These two men have a conflict that they do not find themselves in their world. They feel that they do not belong in the world that they are living in. Ender is living in a place where the government controls a system that everyone must follow. Ender does not believe that this system was right for the people. He is fighting with his internal and external conflict. His external conflict involves his struggles to overcome the obstacles places in his path, and the internal conflict is the result of the external that affect his emotional life.
In Orson Scott Card’s novel, “Ender’s Game”, you have a story about a young man who is called out to fulfill the needs of many. Ender has a respective set of skills that make him stand out among the others. One of them is that he has the knowledge and the compassion to understand the enemy. This wonderful skill that Ender has is the motivating force that drives him to complete his journey from the beginning to the end. On the other hand, you have Ender having the ability to be Christ, or otherwise, a Christ Figure. The leading key ideas are that “Ender, like Christ, […] acts as a mediator between mankind and the higher beings”. He is also “playing a sacrificial role to save
“The only way to end things completely was to hurt him enough that his fear was stronger than his hate (Page 211).” – Andrew “Ender” Wiggin. Fear and the power of fear are very delicate things. If someone has too much fear, it turns to anger. Not enough fear, and they have no respect. The book Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card is about fear, especially of the unknown, and the controlling power it has.
There are many characters in this book, but only a few truly impact the main character. The main character and protagonist of this story is Ender Wiggin. At the beginning of the novel, Ender is 6 years old, but he has the mental capacity of a 15 year old, due to favorable genetics. When a monitoring device is removed from Ender, he gets into a fight with another boy in school named Stilson. Despite being drastically weaker than Stilson, Ender fatally wounds Stilson, but is left unaware that he did so. When asked later by Hyrum Graff, a member of the International Fleet, Ender said that the reason he hurt Stilson so badly was so that Ender wouldn’t only win that fight, but win all future fights, before they even...
These are the three biggest events that impacted Ender’s mental health. Being traded, getting in a fight, and seeing a picture of his brother.
The part of the book where this is most evident was when Ender was confronted by Bonzo and six other boys in the shower. This was so fascinating because it demonstrates how Ender used Bonzo's honor to face Ender one on one, and give Ender a fighting chance. But, the most fascinating thing about this part of the book is how fast Ender can think on his feet. Before Bonzo started fighting him Ender covered himself in soap so that Bonzo could not grab or hold onto him. Ender wanted to provoke the attack so he began saying to Bonzo “please don't hurt me,” and “I don't want to fight.”Once Ender said this Bonzo lunged at him. After he did this Ender avoided the attack, and hit Bonzo knocking him down. When he was down, Ender kicked him in the groin and Bonzo laid motionless. After Bonzo was kicked, Ender’s friend Dink came in and rushed him out of the showers. The thing that fascinated me so much about Ender in this fight was the way that he used Bonzo's honor in order to fight him alone. Ender did not want to ever have to fight Bonzo again so he wanted to make Bonzo fear him. He did this by kicking him in the groin when he was down. Ender did this to keep himself from ever getting in a situation like this with Bonzo again.
The method of control is varied from Ender’s brother, who bullies Ender mercilessly; Colonel Graff’s absolute control over Ender’s upbringing and training, even to the point of clearing Ender of murder twice; the alien’s, who control the mind-game to make contact with Ender and to give them a second chance; on to Ender becoming a Speaker of the Dead, atoning for his crimes against life and taking control of his
The theme of Ender’s game is to show that pushing someone to the end of their wits can have a good turnout. In the first chapter Ender gets his monitor removed, and then he has to defend himself and fight Stilson. Ender’s whole story is a symbol.
In Orson Scott Card’s novel Ender’s Game the main characters and many of the supporting characters go through challenges that break down their minds and physically drain them changing all of them for better or for worse. Some of them go through challenges that test their bodies and minds, but there is one individual that travels through hell and back again. Ender Wiggin the protagonist of the story is described at the beginning of the novel by General Levy as “‘ too malleable. Too willing to submerge himself in someone else’s will”’ (1). In just those few sentences General Levy tells the reader how easily manipulated he will be. As the story progresses Ender is constantly changing from a leader, a hero, and a villain influenced by the memories of his siblings ,Peter
Ender Wiggin’s mental state at the beginning of the novel was stable, but his fear of his older brother Peter Wiggin disrupted his state of mind. As the story progressed Ender was no longer afraid of Peter himself, but of the fact that he was soon becoming Peter, the person he most despised of becoming. Ender realizes his transformation in becoming Peter while he was playing one of the mind games, “ in the mirror he saw a face he easily recognized. It was Peter, with blood dripping down his chin and a snake’s tail protruding from a corner of his mouth.” ( Card 193). As the games in Battle and Command School continued he soon started to become mad, because of the pressure caused by commanding his army to victory and trying to live up to the expectations of the school leaders. An example of the stress put on Ender during the school is shown
Stilson, another kid at battle school trying to be better than everyone, always loses to Ender. Once Stilson sees his competition he wants revenge. He wants to get anyone who is better than him out of his way. Stilson gets his friends together and traps Ender in a science lab to get payback. Instead of simply deciding on a strategy to win this fight, he looks at the situation in a whole new light. Even though Ender is unprepared and outnumbered, he has the ability to quickly evaluate the situation and conclude that the interaction cannot have a happy ending. He chooses not to be the victim anymore. Ender engages Stilson, his school bully in a fight and to his surprise he is able to knock him to the ground. “I have to win this now, and for all time, or I’ll fight it every day and it will get worse and worse” (Card 78). Why does Ender continue to beat on someone who is no longer a threat? He knows that he must not only win this fight, but he must win all the next ones too. If he does not end this pattern of behavior, it will get increasingly worse, and he will face the same battles every
One key component that is produced through Ender’s struggles at his young age is self-reliance. Ender is born unto a family where he is seen as an outcast; he’s a “third.” In a world where population control is major concern, a third-born child is looked upon in disgust. He is isolated even before he is brought into the world. John Kessel reveals his insights into Card’s interpretation of Ender’s exploitation when he says,” Orson Scott Card presents a harrowing tale of abuse. Ender’s parents and older brother (. . .) either ignore the abuse of Ender or participate in it” (Kessel 1). No one contributes more to this abuse than his older brother, Peter. Along with his birth, jealousy and hatred are especially common towards Ender. This disapproving outlook is particularly apparent from Peter. Peter let’s Ender know hi...
He just wins—thoroughly.” this shows he is not afraid of taking certain circumstances to win. This shows the reader that ender is a tough and fearsome person. Ender is also a smart character. He works on his strategy because he believes that you must be smarter than the enemy. He thinks often about what he's about to do before he does it. He also encourages others to think about their decisions and be smart. ““I need you to be clever,
In the book, “Ender’s Game,” there was a 6 year old boy named Ender Wiggin. Ender Wiggin was offered to go to Battle School, where he can go through training to defeat the buggers, an alien species, and was motivated by thinking that he needs to save his beloved sister Valentine so he accepted it. Over at Battle School, Ender showed his ability to visualize gravitational effects, how to maneuver in null gravity inside the battle room, and managed to get farther in a mind game than anyone else. The whole entire time Ender was isolated on purpose so that Ender would physically and mentally be strong. Ender was promoted to Salamander Army, then in Rat Army and then later became a leader in Phoenix Army under his friend, Petra Arkanian’s command.
Ender is the smartest kid in the world. His problem is, he does not want to really destroy the Buggers. He is so empathetic that the adults in his life have to manipulate them so that he can achieve the one thing they want. They do this by making him play the games and isolating him from the others. They single him out and make him a target.
