Emptiness Emptiness. Most people know it as the quality of lacking meaning or sincerity; meaninglessness. What if there was new meaning to the word? Nirmala says, “It’s not our fault that we tend to avoid feelings of emptiness. We were taught to do this by everyone around us who was doing it. In fact, there's a good reason to avoid one feeling of emptiness—the feeling of hunger—since we need to eat when we're hungry. However, we often interpret a feeling of lack as a need for food. Have you ever eaten when you weren’t hungry to try to distract or relieve yourself from a feeling? It’s possible to simply experience the sensations of emptiness or lack and discover that they aren’t so bad” (Nirmala 4). As if you hunger or crave for someone or something so intensely. You want that thing but you don’t know what it is or what to do to get that fill. You could be empty because you could be suffering or longing for someone or something. You are like this so you feel as if you are hollow on the inside. You could be hungry for a certain someone or something. For some people when they look inside themselves it seems as if there is nothing there. In order to feel something they try to distract themselves with things such as food or television. These things only help them for a certain amount of time and when it's over they go back to the feeling of emptiness. “Is it possible for “nothing” to hurt you?
