Employee Motivation
Motivation is an important aspect in many organizations. In our organization motivation is a key to the success. When evaluating administrative staff, sales people, and production workers, each department works well utilizing different theories. One theory could not work adequately for all three; therefore, three theories were used. Production workers utilize the Two-factor theory; sales people use Vroom's expectancy theory and the Equity theory works for the administrative staff. Combining all three theories into one organization helps the organization run smoothly, while gaining successful motivation on all levels.
Sales People
Sales people rely on motivation that is accomplished through a process; this method that best fits them is known as Vroom's expectancy theory. The expectancy theory, as stated by Victor Vroom, is motivation that has a high performance result due to value being placed on the sales person and their ability (2003, p. 20).
Sales people are motivated to the degree that he or she believes '(1) effort will yield acceptable performance, (2) performance will be rewarded, and (3) the value of the rewards is highly positive' (2003, p.20). For sales people to reap rewards or benefits, they first need to know the expectancy of their position. During this first stage, the managers will layout the training that is needed and will set their goals. The managers are also responsible for continued follow up and coaching. Often times this type of follow up is accomplished on the sales floor, so they may continue to have a high level of performance. The coaching is kept positive so that the sales person may continue to exert a higher level of performance. Floor coaching and setting the standards helps sales people see and understand the performance levels that are required. It is also up to the manager to choose highly talented people that are able to accomplish the sales goals that are given.
The second phase of Vroom?s expectancy theory is for the sales person to realize the different outcomes that can occur with expected performance levels. This is also called instrumentality. To help influence this phase, managers should clarify performance and give positive feedback, or rewards that are consistent with their performance level. Research indicates that people who feel they are overpaid increase the quantity or quality of their work while those who feel they are underpaid decrease the quantity or quality of their work according to Schermerhorn et al. (2003 p. 19).
Conclusion
Motivation inspires employees to reach their desired personal goals and achieve the organizations objectives. Depending on the person and position within the organization, different motivational theories may be applied to assist in their accomplishments. Setting attainable standards and assigning quantifiable goals, while offering positive direction and encouragement will result in job satisfaction. This will create a harmonious atmosphere which will increase the value in an organizations most precious resource, human capitol.

The stigma and negative associations that go with mental illness have been around as long as mental illness itself has been recognized. As society has advanced, little changes have been made to the deep-rooted ideas that go along with psychological disorders. It is clearly seen throughout history that people with mental illness are discriminated against, cast out of society, and deemed “damaged”. They are unable to escape the stigma that goes along with their illness, and are often left to defend themselves in a world that is not accepting of differences in people. Society needs to realize what it is doing, and how it is affecting these people who are affected with mental illness. If we continue to not help them, and to foster their illness, it will only get worse.
The subjects were observed to climb on structures and furthermore jumped from the different heights. Through the interviews Sandseter gathered that the children where frightened by climbing high and jumping down to the ground but was more exciting than going down the intended way. The second category is play with high speed, and this was commonly observed when children rode their bikes at high speeds or ran down hills. The risk comes from running into something or someone. The children describe the play with high speeds as scary, but continued to push the risk, as they would start to slide head first down the hill. Play with dangerous tools is the third category, as the children where aloud to work with knives and hammers. The children did not see this as risky play as they felt competent with the dangerous tools; the staff when interviewed suggested this as risky play, when the children would use the knives to whittle sticks. The fourth category of risky play is play near dangerous elements such as the ocean, cliffs and the fire pit in the preschools. Again the children did not see this as risky play but the staff saw children playing by the ocean and the fire pit was risky, as they feared the children falling in. Rough and tumble play is another category as children would play fight and wrestle. The children found expressed this as risky play as it was a scary activity but all agreed it was great fun. The last category of risky play is play where children can disappear or get lost. As the preschools where surrounded by forest the children where aloud to explore, they would not go alone because it was to scary but rather went in groups to eliminate the risk of getting lost. “Feminist” has a negative connotation nowadays; we often times here people call feminists “feminazis,” “man haters,” or even just a “bitch.” Many people think that “feminism is anti- male” (Hooks). Many female celebrities stay hush about the issues surrounding females every day, but Lena Dunham is not one of them. Stemming from a family of artists, Lena became a writer, actress, producer, and director and was put in the spotlight. Instead of keeping hush about the world and Hollywood’s issues pertaining to the mistreatment of not only women, but those of different genders and other oppressed people as well. Lena Dunham shows her bold character and feminist visions by using her pedestal to speak out on social and political issues.
Throughout her presentation, she explains how public stigmas, once again, cause label avoidance pushing many who need help away from treatment. She then goes on to explain how these stereotyped behaviors cause discrimination towards people with a mental illness from employment to housing which only leads to the creation of more stigmas. Finally, she states how the impact of stigmas is associated with the reduction of self-esteem, overall poor health, and problems with interpersonal relationships (Willits). By using this presentation I am able to connect what we have learned about mental health stigmas to my article. First off, for example, Morris explains how psychiatric units invoke people to imagine a frightening place where insane patients are strapped down and poked and prodded for care (Morris). This stereotypical idea relates to how Willits described general stereotypes associated with mental illness such as crazy and dangerous (Willits). On top of that, Willits explained how these stigmas have negative consequences for patients (Willits). This relates to Morris’s explanation on how the stigma around institutions has caused these units to shut down forcing many people to be homeless or live in jail

A singer’s voice was prized and Italian composers, like Rossini, Donizetti, and Bellini wrote operas and works to showcase the voice, it’s color, range and agility. These Italian composers were moving away from the normal style of composition of the time, and the composer Rossini, who set the stage for many other followers. Beowulf Society The earliest known manuscript of Beowulf is thought to have been written in the tenth century, however, the poem had most likely been told as an oral tradition for centuries before that. In fact, the poem’s events date back to the sixth century. However, because there is only one manuscript of Beowulf still in tact very little is known about the poem or its author. The poem does, however, give us great insight into the culture of the people who composed and told this epic tale. Because the poem was performed orally mainly between the eighth and tenth centuries, but dealt with subject matter of centuries earlier, it is difficult to decipher and separate the cultural context involved in the poem from one century to the next. The poem was probably unrecognizable from its original state after two hundred years of oral tradition that would have changed its content drastically. The storyline of the poem, the battles and significant events, probably maintained most of their identity while the cultural context took on another form more suited to the current culture of the people. By the time it was written, in 1000, the poem was probably most representative of the tenth century culture yet it still managed to tell a story similar to the original version. Beowulf, then, gives us a significant insight into the cultural views of the tenth century Anglo-Saxons including their political, social and moral views. The individualistic society was just beginning to replace the tribal system in which no individual had been seen as more important to the success of the tribe than any other. The individuality that Beowulf displayed helped establish new rules in society. Beyond this, Beowulf gives us an even greater insight into middle ages society. Woven throughout almost every aspect of their culture and the poem are very strict moral codes and values. Loyalty, honesty, family ties, courage and even Christianity play a major role in this epic poem. In each of the stories told throughout the poem elements of these values are openly displayed. All three of Beowulf’s battles demonstrate qualities deemed virtuous and essential to the people of the middle ages. Robbins and Judge define motivation by means of three elements. The first element is defined as being the process that account for an individual’s intensity which is concerned with how hard a person tries. The second element is direction that benefits the organization and the third element is persistence which is a measure of how long a person can maintain effort. Motivation is also driven by certain situations that vary between individuals and within individuals, at different times. (Robbins & Judge, 2007, p.186) These elements should not only be expected from employees but from managers as well.
