The purpose of this week assignment is to create an outline that analyzes the role of parenting in healthy emotional development. The topics that will be included in the outline are as followed; temperament and goodness of fit, attachment styles and lifetime emotional health, and parenting style and discipline. Emotional development is one of the most important attributes of a young child’s life, it is the process for which children grow and experience different types of feelings and emotions. While researching information to analyze the role of parenting in healthy emotional development, I learned that parents play a critical role in shaping and influencing their children emotional growth. Parents begin influencing their children’s emotional development at birth. Some individual’s believe that baby’s can develop emotions during the fetus stage. For example, when I was pregnant with my first son, I would often become emotional and cry for no apparent reason. However, my mother would always say to me, “Kitty, this is unhealthy for you and the baby, if you don’t stop crying all of the time, you are going to pass your emotions on to that baby and he is going to cry day and night”. A child’s emotional development depends on the amount of influence the parent has on the child during his or her early stages of development. There are many things parents can do to help their children develop healthy emotional experiences, for example, parents should create a bond with their children on an emotional level, and spend one on one quality time with them, and maintain a consistency to influence their emotional development. In addition, parents should help their children learn to differentiate between healthy and unhealthy emotions (Vasquez,... ... middle of paper ... ...e child respect, honest, and how to think before acting out or breaking any rules in the future. How parents deal with anger and discipline can affect their children mental, physical, and social development. Using profanity, yelling, and hitting are not an effective way to discipline children. In fact this could have an unhealthy affect on children emotional development. Again, parents should be consistent with spending quality time with their children and monitor their emotions. This could help parent eliminate discipline problems before they get out of control. In conclusion, I have created three outline topics as they relates to the role of parenting in healthy emotional development. The topics discussed in the outlines are as followed; temperament and goodness of fit, attachment styles and lifetime emotional health, and parenting style and discipline.
