Emotion and reason are often considered in the production of knowledge and are often considered to contradict one another. Emotion is the natural instinctive state of mind that derives from experience and environment. Reason is the power of the mind to think, understand, and form judgments based on logic. Both of these things are considered in the process of knowledge production and both can work independently. Reason is the most reliable source of knowledge production and emotion only limits the production of reason based knowledge because of emotion fosters bias and selection that impairs the knowledge produced. Emotion does not work well and for that reason, it has no effect on reason based knowledge.

Evolution is a theory and that is undeniable even if there is evidence to support the claim it can not be proven as fact. While theoretical knowledge may seem logical and almost undeniable it is still only theoretical. Still, there are other issues that are impaired by an emotional connection to a belief or idea that limit the production of knowledge and these issues are not theoretical it is practical and justifiable knowledge. For this point, global warming will be used as a scientific truth that is denied due to desire and emotional connections to political causes. The United States Republican party denies the fact that Global Warming is an issue for a variety of reasons. One of these reasons is the greed they have that is fueled by their desire for money and power. Unlike evolution, global warming can be proven with quantitative data and it can be seen in everyday life. There is no way to deny it but because of emotion, the idea is dismissed. First of all, it is impossible to be completely free of bias and selectivity. Emotion plays a large part in this because everyone has a connection to something whether it be intentional or not. For that reason, emotion will play a part in the production of all historical knowledge. However using reason a knowledge seeker can examine multiple sides of the knowledge spectrum and using reason produce their own knowledge based on both sides. So although most sources of knowledge are inherently biased it is up to the knowledge seeker to examine these sources and to the best of their ability derive the least bias and selective knowledge. For example, we learn in History class that communism was horrible and capitalism is so great. We are taught this in a democratic capitalist society that fears communism so I know that that there is bias. By researching other perspectives from countries both the past and present such as Russia, North Korea etc. I am able to produce my own knowledge that is as free of bias as possible. This is done not by using emotion but with reason to produce accurate and working
