Emily Bronte’s style of writing would be described as simple but effective. Emily connects with her readers with the words she uses and how she presents them. Obviously, if one wishes to write proper literature, he or she must write well and have their own style. The author’s language is has its importance in decent literature guiding the reader through the meaning the poem or writing is trying to insinuate. To hold the reader’s attention, Bronte uses her own style and use of diction, syntax, and tone. Emily’s use of diction, or word choice, would give off a somber and realistic feeling to the reader. Bronte uses formal word choice in her poems, “No, though the soil be wet with tears,/ How fair soe'er it grew/ The vital sap once perished/ Will never flow again”(Bronte, Come, Walk With Me, 26-30). Although she uses words that seem comprehendible to most readers, her language is quite flowery and figurative. Although the message within her poems seems loose, her lines are concise and easy to put together. Bronte uses no dialogue in Come, Walk With Me; she simply wrote a message possibly herself or to a friend. The only form of punctuation in Come, Walk With Me would be the use of question marks for the rhetorical questions Bronte adds. Although there is no use of parallel structure, her poem does consist of repetition of the poems title on the second stanza. Emily utilizes syntax structures to simplify her poem to easily move the reader. Her use of syntax also enhances the effect to attain that bluesy feeling in each sentence fragment.
