Enhancements in Space
Innovation is the solid foundation that drives the global workforce. From the textile revolution to Elizabeth Blackwell revolutionizing the medical field for women, innovation has created the modern world as we know it today. Doctor Ellen Ochoa was an innovator who made groundbreaking history revolutionizing the fields of astronomy and engineering, inspiring individuals to chase their dreams after she became the first Hispanic woman in space.
Her constant perseverance to pursue her dreams influenced women to get an education beyond high school. Her drive has motivated young girls to pursue careers involved in the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) to help them chase their aspirations and involving themselves in their communities. She later did an interview with the Hispanic times stating what opportunities there are for women and what an important role that they play. "There's a field of opportunities for Hispanic women in space," says Ellen Ochoa, the only Latina astronaut in NASA and a veteran of four space flights. "The key is learning more about what jobs are available out there, what kinds of things you do when you are on the job, and what kind of education you need to get in order to get those jobs. When I started college I didn't select physics right away, partly because I had no idea what a physicist would do." (Hispanic, 14). Ochoa did not just stop there. Kathleen Orr, popularly known as Kathy Orr is a meteorologist for the Fox 29 Weather Authority team on WTXF in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was born on October 19, 1965 and grew up in Westckave, Geddes, New York with her family. The information about her parents and her siblings are still unknown. As per bio obtained online, Kathy Orr is also an author. She has written a number of books like Seductive Deceiver, The drifter's revenge and many others. She graduated in Public Communications from S. I. Newhouse which is affiliated to Syracuse University.

They realized the importance of education and utilized it to change the climate of their time. I think these to women defined the term "ordinary to extraordinary". They had both broke through color and gender barriers and earned the respect and admiration of colleagues, politicians the African American people. Who knows what would have happened if these two brave women did not stand up and accomplish what they had done. Would "White Supremacy" prevail in a post WWII society. It is hard to quantify the contribution of these women to the civil rights movement but I think it is safe to say that we were fortunate as a nation to have these great crusaders, as well as many other notable figures, to educate us and force us to see change in the United States.
Flannery O’Connor was born on March 25, 1925 in Georgia. She was the only child to her parents, Edward and Regina O’Connor. Two years away from Flannery’s adulthood , her father passed away due to a rare disease, lupus. At the time of her father’s death O’Connor was in Milledgeville, Ga. It can be inferred that she was able to cope up with her father’s death very soon as she didn’t speak of his death much and also resumed to be an active part of her high school’s extra-curricular activities such as painting, English club and also band. A year after her father’s demise she graduated from high school and enrolled herself in Georgia State College to do major in English and sociology. It was during this period that she adapted the name ‘Flannery’. After getting bachelor degree from college she relocated to Iowa City where she attended University of Iowa and also applied for a job as teacher within the campus of her university. In the year of 1947, she eventually obtained her Masters degree in the field of Fine Arts. In spite of the fact that she obtained her Masters degree in 1947, her first work, “The Geranium” was published a year before that and it was just the dawn of her fame. It was merely an origination of the classics that followed later on. Lupus was genetically acquired by O’Connor from her father. Things were going well until end of 1950 in which she was struck by a severe lupus attack. O’Connor was determined about her writing and thus , even such a huge attack didn’t divert her attention off her passion of writing. When she encouraged the women to do research and share their findings to the rest of the scientific community, Hazel was not only encouraging those women but also exemplifying the leadership trait to push that she had. The way she paved the way for other women has contributed to society today with the furtherance of research from the basics that were found.
People have always been divided or classified into two simple categories, male or female. Many of them may have heard at some point in their lives the ongoing discussion of feminism, but not all have taken a deep look at what has been done and has happened for everybody to have reached such level that women like men are viewed in most and many ways equal. Amelia Earhart was a person that changed and proved the ability, responsibility, and equality of women. Amelia Earhart's expedition across the Atlantic Ocean affected many women's lives because it allowed her to keep doing what she had always desired, she became a role model for other women, and she changed society's perspective of women.
She had helped to end women's suffrage by bringing awareness to it and as a result turning this issue from being on a local/municipal level to a greater global level today.
She had many struggles trying to receive higher education because of the restrictions women had when it came to furthering ones education. But after many attempts, she was able to study with the great German mathematician Karl Weierstrass. She worked with him for the next four years and then in 1874, received her doctorate. By this time, she had published numerous original papers in the field of higher mathematical analysis and applications to astronomy and physics. But despite all her attempts, and brilliance, she was still a woman in her time period, and therefore unable to find a job in academia. Weierstrass had tried helping her find a job because he was astonished with her abilities and intellectual capacity, but had no luck because after all, she was still a woman.
Many people in history have encouraged people today to do many different things. One that encourages women more than anything is Amelia Earhart. Amelia Earhart broke many records in flying, first woman to ride across the Atlantic, first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, first woman to fly from Hawaii to California, first woman to fly across America, and many more. She showed people that if you put your mind up to something, you can do anything. No matter how scary something sounded, Amelia was up for the task. Amelia knew that flying was considered very dangerous for women, but she wasn’t going to let that stop her. If she wanted to fly, she would fly.
