Regular cigarette users are now using electronic cigarettes to kick their habits of smoking tobacco to the curb. Studies have shown that electronic cigarette use is more helpful than nicotine patches for the smokers who are wiling to quit. Fairchild and Colgrove provide an article debating on whether electronic cigarettes should be banned from society and the benefits of the e-cigarette “The Case for Tolerating E-Cigarettes”. The authors incorporate a simple approach to establish that nicotine is not good for anyone who uses cigarettes. Therefore, a well-known alternative to cigarette users, electronic cigarettes were created to reduce the harmful effects associated with smoking cigarettes. Many risks associated with smoking cannot completely be eliminated so regulation of tobacco products is a better way to help decrease the harmful effects associated with smoking tobacco. The federal government has took interest in proving safer tobacco products for over fifty years. In 1964, the Surgeon General linked smoking with lung cancer however, he included that new kinds of cigarettes were necessary to provide safer tobacco products. In the early 1970’s the government spent about 6 million dollars trying to come up with new ways to develop safer tobacco products. The health secretary Joseph A. Califano Jr., found in 1978 that more research should be put into developing less hazardous cigarettes. Although Califano believed smoking was the public enemy he believed in the safety or making a safer cigarette for smokers. Even the American cancer society, who stressed concern over the creation of less hazardous cigarettes, supported less harmful cigarettes that would satisfy smokers. The tobacco industry manipulated it’s products by making su...

...smoking. The electronic cigarette still contains nicotine and may even contain as much nicotine as a regular cigarette. Therefore, the banning of electronic cigarettes is not a counterproductive decision but one that can prevent the 480,00 tobacco related deaths (CDC.gov). Every year people are dying due to a cigarette addiction and electronic cigarettes still considered cigarettes will not prevent these deaths. E-cigarettes would not prevent the 42,000 deaths associated with secondhand smoke every year (CDC.gov). Electronic cigarettes produce secondhand vapor that affects other individual’s noses and throats. Nevertheless, electronic cigarette would still affect the people surrounding the smokers. The debate of whether the electronic cigarette should be banned will not stop unless the FDA configures this new form of cigarette safe for everyone including nonsmokers.
From my late teens, into my mid-twenties, I was a smoker. At first, it was just recreational; however that changed fairly quickly. I began buying them and smoking regularly throughout the day. It then progressed to smoking a pack per day until it was too late. I was officially addicted. I knew it was a terrible habit and I was shamed of it and would hide it from friends and family hoping they wouldn’t find out. Finally, after coughing hacking, and repeatedly getting sick several times a year, I came to the realization that I had to quit. However, it wasn’t as easy as I had anticipated. After relapsing several times before I was finally able to quit, I broke this terrible habit successfully. It was an extremely difficult habit to break and I’ll never go back. I was a lucky individual who had the mental toughness and willpower to overcome this strong addiction, but Americans struggle to quit each year, and many never do. However, there’s a new product on the market today called electronic cigarettes that are believed to aid individuals in the fight against addiction. It’s a battery powered device that heats a nicotine diluted solution into a vapor that is then inhaled. It’s believed to be a healthier, more affordable alternative to tobacco cigarettes. It is much safer because it doesn’t have nearly as many harmful chemicals as tobacco cigarettes and it’s believed to be much more affordable for consumers. However, many critics believe that electronic cigarettes are extremely addictive and just as harmful. Although electronic cigarettes are believed to be detrimental to people’s heath due to low quality product standards, harmful components in filling solution, and reports suggesting they’re addictive and just as harmful as toba...
Others might say that E-cigs are just nothing but water vapor and can’t harm you. But, what they don’t know is that it’s more than just water vapor there is a lot of poisonous chemicals involving the liquid. Electronic cigarettes shouldn’t be outlawed because they are beneficial for regular cigarette smokers. Some people believe that e cigs are not

Electronic cigarettes have been a massive hit lately in the U.S. market. E-cigarettes do not technically produce smoke, but they do produce vapor and are not much different from ordinary cigarettes. Even though e-cigarette may be considered safer than regular cigarettes it still contains nicotine and other chemicals that are harmful to the human body. E-cigarettes can be a positive measure opposite of tobacco products, but in the long run it is no different than regular cigarettes and could lead to negative outcomes. Thus, e-cigarettes should be restricted, regulated, and be treated as “regular cigarettes.”
... for people to quit smoking. This change would give current smokers of traditional cigarettes a new, more attractive and possibly more effective, way to quit smoking. Over 50 researchers and specialists signed a letter to the World Health Organization stating that electronic cigarettes have the potential to save hundreds of millions of lives (McWatt). Due to this, e-cigarettes should be readily accepted in the world. However, use by minors should still not be condoned, as e-cigarettes can potentially pose as a gateway to traditional tobacco smoking. Electronic cigarettes should also be permitted for use in public areas, since it has been proven that they are not of considerable harm to the environment. The new option of electronic cigarettes has presented an opportunity to bring an end to the harm caused by traditional cigarettes that has been going on for centuries.
Thesis statement: Research suggest that electronic cigarettes, while less harmful than conventional cigarettes, have significant health risk and safety concerns.
Electronic cigarettes are a viable alternative to smoking regular tobacco cigarettes. Recently, they have become increasingly popular because they have many benefits and do not have the harmful side effects of smoking tobacco cigarettes. Moreover, electronic cigarettes are cheaper, come in a wide variety of flavours, and do not produce an unpleasant odour. Unlike tobacco cigarettes, electronic cigarettes can be used anywhere and have no restrictions. The benefits are recognised by both health care providers and governmental agencies alike. For a great alternative to smoking, electronic cigarettes are the best option.
Electronic cigarettes have a coil that heats the liquid into vapor. This method of eliminating cigarette smoking is more convenient for people in this day because there are shops that do sell these electronic cigarettes. Since they are convenient, it is increasingly popular worldwide and more smokers might be thinking to make the switch. With this method, smokers can reduce the cigarette consumption and continue to have the “smoking” experience with less heath risks. Although there is not too much research on it smokers should make the switch because it is healthier and cleaner for the environment. When you take a puff on the electronic cigarette, the battery heats up the nicotine, which creates vapor that is then inhaled into the lungs. Smokers should be allowed to smoke electronic cigarettes in public, also known as “vaping”, because it is safer and won’t cause a fire as fast as a cigarette would. Although it does have a battery and batteries can explode due to having the battery being used for a long period of time. You would be able to notice it getting hot before it actually catches on fire, due to the heat it is producing. There are now new
Tobacco has retained to be the most widely used drug all over the world despite its negative effects on human health and physicality. Tobacco is normally either smoked or chewed where it is mixed with nicotine, an addicting drug that creates a buzzed-like feeling in one’s head after usage. Over the past 10 years, there have been hundreds of studies on how they affect you, how you can stop using them, or some present “better alternatives” for your body rather than using the drug itself. Back in 2003, the first electronic cigarette was invented over in China by a 52-year-old male pharmacist. An electronic cigarette is, “a cigarette-shaped device containing a nicotine-based liquid that is vaporized (also known as vaping) and inhaled, used to simulate
On the one hand, e-cigarettes hold the promise to save the lives of many smokers who switch to them; while on the other hand, they present mammoth risks to the society.
Smoking cigarettes is a detrimental practice not only to the smoker, but also to everyone around the smoker. According to an article from the American Lung Association, “Health Effects” (n.d.), “Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S., causing over 438,000 deaths per year”. The umbrella term for tobacco use includes the use of cigarettes, cigars, e-cigs and chewing tobacco. While tobacco causes adverse health consequences, it also has been a unifying factor for change in public health. While the tobacco industries targets specific populations, public health specifically targets smokers, possible smokers, and the public to influence cessation, policies and education.
This year alone cigarettes will kill over 420,000 Americans, and many more will suffer from cancers, and circulatory and respiratory system diseases. These horrible illnesses were known to come from cigarettes for years. Recently the Food and Drug Administration declared nicotine, the main chemical in cigarettes, addictive. This explains why smokers continue to use cigarettes even though smokers are aware of the constantly warned about health dangers in cigarettes. Some researchers have also found out that smoking by pregnant women causes the deaths of over 5,000 babies and 115,000 miscarriages. The only way to get rid of the suffering and loss of life by cigarettes is to ban them. . For years cigarettes have been known to cause cancer, emphysema, and other horrible illnesses. The deaths of over 420,000 of Americans this year will be do to cigarettes. With all the other causes of deaths, alcohol, illegal drugs, AIDS, suicide, transportation accidents, fires, and guns, cigarettes still count for more deaths than those do combined. We can’t stand and watch people die because they smoke cigarettes. Thousands of smokers try to rid themselves of cigarettes but can't because of additive nicotine. Nicotine was recently declared addictive by the Food and Drug Administration, which explains why many smokers continue to smoke despite the health warnings on cigarette smoking. Nicotine makes it almost impossible for cigarette smokers to quit smoking because of its addictive nature, and with the cigarette manufacturers putting just enough nicotine in the so they cant be outlawed. The benefits of outlawing cigarettes greatly outnumber the disadvantages, for example, many scientists believe a link between smoking and a shortened life span exists between the two, a ban on cigarettes could increase life spans. Many studies suggest that billions of dollars now spent on smoking related. Smoking related illnesses could be reduced by outlawing cigarettes, families could save money by not purchasing cigarettes, and accidental fires costing millions of dollars caused by cigarettes would stop. Although a complete ban on cigarettes currently remains almost impossible, several organizations recently helped create a bill that could control cigarettes much in the same way the government now controls drugs. One such organization, the Food and Drug Administration, headed by David Kesslar drafted a major part, which would require manufacturers to disclose the 700 chemical additives in cigarettes, reduce the level of harmful chemicals, require cigarette companies to warn of the addictive nicotine, restrict tobacco advertising and promotion, and control the level of nicotine cigarettes contain.
One of the biggest problems with society today is children and young adults are turning to electronic cigarettes for a source to nicotine. It is understood that some people might think that electronic cigarettes are better for people but here is why they are not. Electronic cigarettes have the same consequences as normal cigarettes with very few differences, such as in electronic cigarettes there is no tobacco and there is no carbon monoxide. Some might not know what is really in electronic cigarettes. Many people don’t know that there are over seven thousand chemicals and cartridges in these devices. Smoking electronic cigarettes has the same effects as normal cigarettes; they as well have been known to cause cancer and other diseases. Here is why electronic cigarettes are just as bad for the human body as
Although it is beneficial for the economy for the production of tobacco products it is extremely risky to use the product. According to researchers second-hand smoke is terrible for everyone in the world who walk by someone who is exhaling. In the article by Robert Proctor “Why ban the sale of cigarettes? The case for abolition” he states that cigarettes are the “most deadl...
A study from Hatsukami and colleagues (2010) about reducing the levels of nicotine in tobacco, in order to help prevent addiction and help wean off the habit brought a different alternative to quit tobacco. A new technology has arrived and it has been beneficial by weaning off smokers from nicotine and it is called the electronic cigarette. According to Stifferlin (2014), “researchers found that based on the evidence, e-cigs are much less harmful to smokers and bystanders compared to conventional cigarettes” and researchers also found “that e-cigs can help some users cut down on their use of regular cigarettes and even quit.” Due to the fact that e-cigs are fairly new, researchers are still unaware the health issues it may bring. Currently e-cigs are better than a traditional cigarette because of the fewer toxins it
