During the Mayor election of Boston on last Tuesday, November 05th there was a referendum about the construction of a casino in East Boston and Revere area. In order to have the license to start the construction of the casino the citizens of both towns had to vote and decide if the project will be aloud. Pro-casino citizens in East Boston where confident they will get more than sixty percent of the votes. The citizens of Revere that agree with the project had a big number of votes in their favor, pro-casino group from Revere stated that they will get at least sixty five percent of the votes. After the Mayor election on last Tuesday and the final count of the votes, the result was not what pro-casino supporters were anticipating. The result in East Boston was fifty six percent against a casino construction and forty four percent in favor of the project. The result in the city of Revere was sixty percent in support and forty percent against. After the official results on that day, a speaker of Suffolk Downs the race track were Caesars entertainments planned to build the casino stated that the results of the referendum were not what they were expecting, and the project at Suffolk Downs could move only to the side of the city of Revere.
The pro-casino group from Revere and East Boston, Caesars entertainments, and powerful politicians including the Mayor of Boston Thomas Menino stated that a construction in the fifty two acres of Suffolk Downs on Revere side is bigger than the two other casinos to be built in western Massachusetts. A casino can bring revenue of thirty two millions dollars to the city in taxes. The project estimated at least a creation of four thousand jobs, and an investment of one billion dollars to build the casi...

...are talking about the impact to democracy. In addition, the original project stated that the horse race track and the park will stay in place, and with the decision to build a casino just in Revere this will not be possible.
There is understandably a tension between supporters and anti-casino groups, but both points of view are understandable. One group points to the benefits of a casino construction and the benefits that this can bring to the city. The anti-casino group focuses on the impacts of a casino in their neighborhood and small business. Each group has their point of view, but they can have a mutual agreement in benefit of the city. One simple solution could be to build the casino outside Boston which they have a place in western Mass. The last word has the State of Massachusetts who gives the casino’s license, but this decision will be on December 31st.
The Committee to Stop Mahwah Mall, a grassroots group of citizens concerned over this perceived miscarriage of justice, formed in response to the rezoning. The Committee worked over the next few months to collect signatures for a petition requesting the Township place a nonbinding referendum on the November ballot. In addition, the Committee raised enough fund in order to retain an attorney, Michael Kates, who filed a lawsuit against the Council on the Committee’s behalf.
The Presidential Election of 1820 was during a time of sincere peace and harmony within America. Previous to the election, the Federalists disappeared during the war of 1812 because they were labeled as traitors. Because of this, political rivalries and conflicts were at an all time low, and only one political party with one candidate would run for office. This period was called the “Era of Good Feelings” (MultiEducator) and was a time of nationalism and little sectionalism.
In the hilarious 2009 blockbuster hit The Hangover, “the three best friends that anyone could have” need to find a way to get the money they owe Mr. Chow in order to have the groom to be, Doug, returned to them. Phil, Stu, and Alan devise an intricate scheme that uses card counting while playing Blackjack to win a lot of money. The scheme uses many distractions such as Stu, and his stripper wife, acting as a distraction as well as Phil making lots of noise and obscene gestures to the cameras of the casino in order to bring attention to him and allowing Alan to do the card counting and win the money they owe Mr. Chow. When the casino managers begin to become suspicious of the possible card counting that is going on, Stu’s recently married stripper wife falls to the floor causing the security to focus on her giving Alan and Phil time to escape unseen with all the recently won cash. This scene, although entertaining, does not accurately portray what goes on when someone is card counting in these big time casinos, such as the one seen in this movie, Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. Card counting is much more subtle and not such a big scheme as it is portrayed in this very funny movie.
For years casino gambling was portrayed in the media and Hollywood as being associated with criminal activities and the mafia. Now with proper scrutiny and government regulations casino gambling has become a lucrative business, with casinos stock even trading on Wall Street. Casino gambling is an ever increasingly popular and legal activity in many states throughout the United States. “The term gambling or ‘gaming’ as the industry calls it, means any legalized form of wagering or betting conducted in a casino, on a riverboat, on an Indian reservation, or at any other location under the jurisdiction of the United States” (National Gambling Impact Study Commission Act). States that allow casino gambling benefit vastly by re-incorporating the taxation off of commerce gained from casinos and tourism associated with the casinos back into the state and local communities. Jobs created by casinos also have a positive impact on the economy in local communities surrounding casinos as well as, the states that legalize gambling. Texas, while allowing horse and dog racing, lottery, and charitable bingo, does not currently prohibit casino gambling. In this essay, I will provide the different reasons the State of Texas will benefit from legalizing casinos gambling. By not having casinos, Texas continues to lose valuable tax revenue that could be awarded to state and local government funded programs for example, education, public safety, economic development, and infrastructure improvements. With the increasing number of legal casinos in bordering states such as Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, the loss of tourism and tax revenue is a growing concern for Texas. Passing legislation to allow casinos in the State of Texas will help fund ...
Gambling can have adverse effects on the social welfare of many individuals and families. Gambling can increase the number of individuals and families dealing with gambling addiction and exploit individuals and families who are economically disadvantaged. Under such circumstances, not all forms of gambling should be legalized. This is clear evidence that gambling revenue allocated for Texas schools is not worth the negative effects associated with gambling. Education is a valuable source of growth for all citizens in a community, no one in society can truly grow if one part of society is left
The issue of legalizing slots and/or legalized gambling in the State of Maryland is a complex one, and one of great consequence to both the State’s residents, and the future of the State itself. Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich’s slots bill proposes that the State place a total of 15,500 slot machines or video poker machines in six different locations, three of which would be chosen from a pool of four Maryland racetracks. The racetracks that would be eligible to install slots or video poker machines are Laurel Park racecourse in Laurel, Rosecroft Raceway in Prince George’s county, a track that would be built at a later date in Allegheny county, and the Preakness Stakes host Pimlico in Baltimore; In effect turning those racetracks into “racinos”. The bill goes on to stipulate that the State’s portion of the revenue be used exclusively for education.
The author feels as if in the Electoral College that if electors were able to change the vote of the people living in the states that it does not seem to matter if someone were to voice their opinion or not, due to the outcome of how the elector of the state may take in order to cast their
In an effort to provide jobs and reverse the poverty that had long plagued the Coeur d’Alene people, in 1989 tribal member David Matheson started conducting market analyses and feasibility studies for a casino to be built on the reservation. The plan, with approval of the state, was to build a 100,000 square-foot casino and offer both bingo and casino-style gaming.
Gambling... Who does not like to gamble? People play lotteries, bet on sport games or try their luck on slot machines with a thought to win some amount of money. In fact, this excitement for gambling can be seen even from early ages; for example, ancient Egyptians used to play dice in 2000 BC or the first casinos opened their doors to customers during the Greeco-Roman period ( Whittaker and Cushman 1 ). Nowadays casino industry is a large business in the United States that brings high revenues and offers various entertainment that attracts people from different areas. So just recently residents and visitors of Worcester, Wicomico and surrounding counties got a great opportunity to try themselves in a new Ocean Downs casino that came into operation couple months ago. Ocean Downs casino is an excellent benefit to the community that helps to improve the economic and social status of the county and also serves as a great entertainment for the adult population.
So as you know rumor has it that this voting fraud is a real problem one man can change the entire thing, which is why voting rules are invented, because it made people mad, it’s caused problems in voting, and it can hurt the election if you just lie about it. This law that has recently been passed in most states has made voting better, no issues have come up since passed this year. Let's make sure that we don’t ruin these things for everyone, and remember one person’s opinion can change
The gambling industry is a big money maker in America. Gambling institutions exist in many states. These institutions consist of riverboat casinos, Indian reservation casinos, and regular gaming casinos that all accumulate millions of dollars to the state through taxes. This tax money is then used throughout the state for many programs that may include education, health, and road maintenance. The American Gaming Association (AGA) even claims that gambling institutions lower the taxes in many areas because of the large tax money they give the government (CQ 784). But does the gambling industry only help and build the economy and attract money from the public? Perhaps the gambling industry increases more than just government funds. Is it possible that the gambling also increases crime?
There are several positive effects that gambling has along with its positive impact for economic development. In some areas of the U.S. gambling has been embraced and promoted as a legitimate strategy of economic development. It helps the unemployed and underemployed by providing them with jobs that receive amazing benefits. It helps the real estate business in areas where casinos are built there are most likely to be a hotel somewhere nearby. There are several gambling companies that make charitable donations in their areas, by giving thousan...

...bling, they are all are ok in limit until they are reached to the level of addiction. By supporting the casinos and state lotteries, I don’t believe the government is supporting pathological gambling, but instead they are supporting the entertainment that people have the choice to experience. The government provides enough services to people so that they don’t reach that pathological stage of gaming or at least provides enough support to help get out of that horrid stage.
Known as one of the most significant developments in the hospitality industry during the past three decades, the casino industry has rapidly expanded and converged into the lodging and hospitality industries (Walker, 2013). According to Walker’s Introduction to Hospitality Management (2013), “casino resorts are among the most visible hospitality businesses in the world”. Twenty out of the thirty largest hotels in the world are casino resorts and they are located on the famous Las Vegas Strip (Walker, 2013). Casino resorts are often quite large and luxurious where gambling is the main activity engaged in by patrons. A report released by the American Gaming Association stated that “based on direct, indirect, and induced impacts, the commercial casino industry supported approximately $125 billion in spending and nearly 820,000 jobs in the U.S economy in 2010” (Bazelon, et al., 2012) On a larger scale, the global casinos and gaming sector grew by 9.2 percent in 2012 to reach a total value of $456 billion (“Global casinos”, 2013).
