El Salvador is a beautiful country with a big population of 6.4 million. The main ethnics are White, indigenous Indians, and Mestizo. Many Spaniards settled and married native Indians therefore making Mestizo (both European and Indian blood) a popular ethnic group. El Salvador’s main language is Spanish, but Nawat is a native language that is spoken by elder Salvadorians.
The El Salvador government is a republican setup. The Institutions include Executive, Legislature, Judiciary, and Military. The Executive institution is headed by the president who serves a five year term and is assisted by a council of ministers at which he selects. El Salvador’s current president is Mauricio Funes. The Legislature institution consists of eighty-four seats, and the members are selected by popular choice for a three year term. The Judiciary institution is made up of the Supreme Court. The judges are elected by the Legislature Assembly for a nine year term. The Military institution includes the Salvadorian Army, the Salvadorian Air Force, and the Salvadorian Navy. El Salvador celebrates their Independence Day on September 15th.
El Salvador is in Central America and borders the Pacific Ocean. It is between Guatemala and Honduras. Its land area is 8,000 square mile, and its water area is 199 square miles. Most of El Salvador’s land is covered in mountains ranges. El Salvador's highest land elevation is a mountain shared with Honduras called Cerro El Pital and is 9,000 feet above sea level. The lowest land elevation in El Salvador is the Pacific Ocean at 0 miles below sea level. El Salvador is divided into three different land regions. The first region is on a hot, narrow, pacific belt. ...Salvador has great tourist attractions for everyone. One historical attraction is the Mayan ruins of Tazumal. It is considered to be El Salvador’s best persevered ruins. La Joya de Caren, Ca Sablana and San Andres are a few more Mayan ruins with museums to visit. Another historical attraction is the Panchimalco Indian Village. Its residents are some of the only surviving Pipil Indians. El Salvador has beautiful natural attractions too. One is their tallest mountain, El Pital, near the border with Honduras. In San Ignacio City, you take forest trails and see numerous inactive volcanoes. You can also go hiking on the San Salvador volcano. Los Chorros is a natural waterfall, and Lago de Llopango is a crater lake which you can also visit in El Salvador.
El Salvador is a gorgeous country with an interesting culture and history that would be a great place to visit.
