Early peoples organize their respective societies by caste systems or social structures. Social structures allowed the people to know the rank and occupation they held in their society. The higher the rank the more active you were in the government and all other businesses. Along with rank and occupation came wealth and power. The Egyptian pharaohs and royalty priest and wealthy men were the highest in society so had more jurisdiction in how things worked. Pharaohs were the highest, and had the most control of the government,and when related to religion the pharaohs were the basis of religion . Poor people and slaves were the last in rank and were thought to be of no use or importance which is why they had no input in the government.
Ramses had a harsh and profound life, yet he was able to accomplish, build, and expand so many ideas across Egypt and even into today. Ramses II made most decisions based on his involvement whether that was war, politics, or ruling. Egypt had to rely on Ramses II to be Pharaoh when his father died. This step in which Ramses had to take at the age of 19 was hard to fulfill with only some training by his father. Ramses was able to accomplish many innovations that have survived to be around today. As ruler Ramses was also the leader of his army and led many battles including the famous war between the Egyptians and Hittites. Ramses created the first treaty to be written down after a war. Ramses has been known to be one of the most profound Pharaoh in history. Even though Egypt relied on Ramses II to be Pharaoh at such a young age, Egypt did not rely just on his judgment, but rather his personal involvement. He expanded Egypt to its’ greatest and highest with a thriving economy and enriched structural growth. Ramses II led for 66 years bringing Egypt to its’ highest power, territorial gain, and economical wealth.
Pharaoh or President? “The nobility of securing the people’s will, is more important to me than Egypt’s rule,” said Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who is currently working to make Egypt a better place. Hatshepsut (1538 BC - 1458 BC) was the first female pharaoh in Egypt and ruled for about 20 years. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, born in Cairo, Egypt in 1954, is the current president of Egypt who came into office during the summer of 2014.
In Ancient Egypt there were over 29 Kings and Pharaohs and over 5 Queens. Some of the most famous kings and queens were: Ramses II, Ramses III, King Tut, Cleopatra, and Nefertiti.
King Tut was a fascinating pharaoh at most. There isn’t much on who king Tut was or when he was born or how he died. But some people have dedicated there lives to find out who he was. He was born during the Golden Age. He became king a surprisingly young age. He achieved many things and had an important job. His death was and still is a mystery to most. It was said he wasn’t in his original tomb. But he was eventually found. King Tut became a Pharaoh at a really young age and he had many achievements but died at a relatively young age. “Even though the United States had not yet had a woman serve as president, one of the most successful and long- running pharaohs in Ancient Egypt was a woman. “Pharaohs were considered gods in Ancient Egypt. Some were able to make changes that benefited Egypt. Menes united Upper and Lower Egypt, making Egypt very successful. A majority of people believed that men were better pharaohs than women in Ancient Egypt. Historians may argue that King Tut was the greatest pharaoh of Egypt, but Hatshepsut was better because she was able to make Egypt wealthy with successful trades and numerous physical structures.
When a member of the Egyptian royal family became pharaoh, he became much more than ruler of a mighty empire, he ascended to the rank of god. This position allowed the pharaoh to commission monuments to himself and to his reign, controls his subjects regardless of their rank, and maintain Egypt’s status among her enemies. Just as in any hierarchical governmental system, the pharaoh treated different classes of individuals and groups in different ways from the austere priest to the lowly peasant. The them, Pharaoh was a god and he would allow no one to forget that fact; but to him, the world was below him and he treated each group accordingly. This is illustrated in some of the few surviving works from the Egyptian dynastic periods. Through personal letters, official government correspondence, and fiction, a broad picture can be painted as to how the pharaoh interacted with his people and how they reacted towards him.
Akhenaten was a pharaoh of Egypt who reigned over the country for about seventeen years roughly between 1353 B.C. and 1335 B.C. (Jarus). Akhenaten was one of the children of Amenhotep III and his wife Queen Tiye. Little is known about his early life; this is mainly because, unlike his four sisters and one brother, he was not depicted on the monuments and other structures that his father built (Roberts, page 37). Akhenaten created his own religion, due to the fact that his family never taught him the ways of praising the original Egyptian Gods. He began worshipping the visible sun, which he called the Aten, and he changed his own name to Akhenaten (Beneficial to the Aten) (Brier and Hobbs, p. 23). “Amenhotep insisted that the proper way to
Pharaohs had the authoritative role in ancient Egypt and were worshiped just like the gods. Having the most power in ancient Egypt, the pharaoh owned all the land and the people. While the pharaoh was still living he had the responsibility to keep the land in the condition where people can live there and would not starve, but if he died the role could have been passed on to his eldest son (Jovinelly28).
The Egyptian society consisted of three kingdoms (Old, Middle, and New) and about thirty-four different dynasties. The Egyptians were ruled by kings or pharaohs. The earlier rulers were called “Horus-kings”. I think that they called themselves “Horus-kings” because they thought the pharaoh was associated with Horus. That’s probably true in the Egyptians mind because they did believe that the pharaoh was basically a god. There were many rulers over the time due to disease, illness, etc. The Egyptians had only the pharaoh to tell them what to do and to deal with the people’s problems, although it more the vizier who dealt with the people. Unlike the Egyptians the Ottomans didn’t have as many kings or dynasties. Ottoman had about thirty-six kings over the course of the empire. They had quite fewer because they had better times to live in there possibly was less disease and better living. The sultans ruled for about twenty years. Few sultans ruled twice. The reason some rules twice was because they step down and let their successor rule and went back into power again after their successor. Between both civilizations the rulers ruled until their death, some of them did step down for another ruler to take rule. I think that some of them did actually ruled to their death but not much information was given for the Egyptians because of the amount of kings or rulers that the Egyptians had.

Ancient Egypt was a single tightly organized state for much of its history (Centanni, n.d.). In all its phases, the Egyptian government was led by the pharaoh. The pharaoh was held to be descended from gods, with the power to assure success and control the rituals that assured the flow of the Nile and the fertility derived from irrigation. Wanting gods to favor Egypt, the entire population of people did not hesitate to carry out laws that the pharaoh placed upon them. Egypt’s pharaohs claimed additional power and authority as actual incarnations of the gods
Both Mesopotamia and Egypt were affiliated with divine authority. The priest-king of Mesopotamia and the pharaoh of Egypt were both closely tied to religious institutions. Even though both civilizations carried out their roles of kingship in different ways, the duties and responsibilities that they had to take were the same in many aspects. The two major roles as a priest-king or pharaoh were order and protection. They were in charge of maintaining peace and justice between not only the people of civilization, but also outsiders. He was looked upon as a religious who carried out religious, political, and social rituals and functions. Not only was he looked upon as a religious leader, but also as a military leader. They had to lead their armies into battle, and decide what was best for the people at the moment. Hammurabi, for example, was one of the greatest kings of Mesopotamia. Not only was he a successful military leader and administrator, but also believed in justice, which is why he created laws that governed Babylon called the Code of Hammurabi. For thousands of years, Ancient Egypt was the superior civilization in the Mediterranean world. There were many changes that occurred throughout the years with one stable ruler, the pharaoh. The first true pharaoh was Narmer who united Lower and Upper Egypt in the beginning of the Old Kingdom. Many years later Amenhotep III comes into rule. More than 30 years after Akhenaten and Tutankhamun take the throne. Amenhotep III, Akhenaten, and Tutankhamun were all Egyptian pharaohs that all have characteristics that make them and their time of rule unique and memorable.
Egypt had many intricate structures that have made history, but the most important of the designs is their social structure. The society of Egypt was structured as a pyramid with the pharaoh at the top. The elite part of society contains the nobles, priests, viziers, and government officials. Next, soldiers and military are used for protection and to keep order throughout the kingdom. The scribes record and keep records about the kingdom. Merchants, artisans, and farmers are a large section of the pyramid. They supply the kingdom with food, money, and jobs. Last, slaves and servants are their to help and support the people above them. Each part of society has their role to benefit the kingdom as a whole. The pharaoh is at the top of the pyramid and must control all of society.
Before our modern day obsession with posting to internet walls and worshiping our pets, an ancient civilization nestled on the banks of the Nile River was doing the exact same thing. Except that civilization was over 6,000 years ago. That civilization was Egypt.
