Effects of Twitter as a MArketing Tool

This study will examine the positive and negative effects of twitter, and other various social media apps, on marketing. The main focus will be on Twitter; however, Twitter is commonly used in syndication with other social media applications. Twitter is a very unique for of social media because of its ability to reach many users. The one word behind Twitter is: Connection. Advertisers can target specific users, interact with twitter users, and even advertise promotions and sales. Also I will explore the weight of a company’s reputation that can be gained or lost through Twitter. Every company should be looking towards the future and an explanation of why social media is the future will be included. This paper seeks to comprise all of this information, using statistics and charts to support it, and analyze them to come to a definitive conclusion on the effectiveness of Twitter for marketing.
Using social media can allow organizations to reach more customers or even target specific consumers. According to Larry Kim, Social Media Marketing “is a form of internet marketing that implements various social media networks in order to achieve marketing communication and branding goals” (pp 2). Social Media can be used for effectively creating website traffic, creating customer awareness, creating brand identity, and even communicating and interacting with customers. Website traffic is directly in relation to conversion, which is the percentage of customers who visit your store or website, compared to the customers who make a purchase.
