Pollution is arguably one of earth’s biggest threats, but it has yet to gain significant enough political attention to warrant substantial legislation change on a global level. Due to the rise of an exponentially larger human population, growing global trade markets and the domination of capitalism in many industrial countries, we are placing an increasing amount of stress on the environment which has detrimental consequences for the air we breathe, the water we drink and every species that inhabits the earth with us.
Humans are constantly releasing various types of noxious gases into the atmosphere. Manufacturing industries emit sulfur dioxide by burning fossil fuels. This highly acidic gas rises and falls back down as acidic rain, damaging many forms of aquatic wildlife as well as harming vegetation and other land animals. Another example is the extreme output of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. It poses a threat because it gets trapped in our atmosphere and causes warming of the earth. We are continuously causing damage through the extensive amounts of waste we create, the mass amounts of fossil fuels we burn up releasing the harmful fumes into the atmosphere, the contamination of water and the non-stop light and noise being output which has a detrimental impact on wildlife. We should find alternative means of dealing with pollution instead of consistently damaging our environment using traditional methods. We have to change soon before the damage we are causing becomes irreversible.
