Educational Vouchers

Are children in the environment unhappy with the school that they attend? Do some children want to attend private schools rather than public schools? What should be done with these children that have these thoughts and feelings towards the school that they are attending? People should want to help children with their happiness, wants, and needs. The answer to all of the questions would be to use educational vouchers. Educational vouchers are programs that give money to benefit schools. However, not everybody has the same viewpoint. Educational vouchers can be effectively put to use and can work in our society. There are many people in the world today that have arguments against educational vouchers. The United States simply can't afford to sacrifice another generation of children who don't have a good education. Our nation's children desperately need the best education possible, and it's the parent's and the school's job to make sure that this happens. All parents should want their children to feel comfortable with the surroundings and be happy with the school that they attend. For example, if children were autistic and needed more of a challenge in education, then the children probably will not like the school that they attend. By giving educational vouchers a chance, parents will have the choice to send their children to the school that they think they will benefit from. For instance, instead of having just two kinds of schools, private and public, America will have a palette of choice including voucher redeeming public schools, voucher redeeming private or parochial ones, quasi-public schools and home learning. In addition, The Public Education, by Myron lieberman, says, "A consistent pattern across the board indicates that parents who exercise choices either public or private are more satisfied with the schools their children attend." There are many reasons why educational vouchers are beneficial if they are used properly and for the right reasons. On the other hand, there are many people who disagree with using educational vouchers. In fact, in an article from Public Education the writer, Gerald Leinwand, says, "Here in its essence, is the big under-appreciated problem with vouchers." Public schools have to take all comers and are subject to public accountability (Leinwand 116-117).
