Our future is dependent on what we prepare for today, and only education could bring you to a golden door. No matter that you do not know where you are going, but you need to maintain the fact that you are moving. “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela, the first President of South Africa who dismantles the legacy of apartheid in South Africa. Unlike the old day, people were judged how powerful they are by their physical body. Today, people determine a person by his or her brain. There is often a class that the teacher conveys his or her lectures the whole period of the class for the entire semester, and activities seldom occur. As a result, there is no contribution of observation or experience in learning. According to Dewey, learning by thinking which is an intelligent method of learning that happens when students could experience what they are learning (Dewey 559-560). In fact, it creates the connection between the material students tries to learn and their brain, which really inspires them in the subject. In addition, although, teachers provide problems for students to solve, which is supposed that our brain should be active, but actually the problem has a set answer, and there is only one way to solve it (Dewey 562-563). Then it is similar as what we can say the students is just imitating what already there. Observation and thinking would not likely be needed and creativity is swamped. Moreover, the educating style causes students misunderstand the goal of learning by exaggerating the importance of the grade in class which leads a student become a “cold-storage”, store the information that is needed for the examination. It is not necessary to obtain education from school, yet the environment could offer you a prosperous field of education, but it also could lead your education blind. Tzu suggests that the community one lives in is dominant to education by describe, “If white sand is mixed with mud, it too will turn black” (Tzu 547). Imagine if a boy grows up and lives in a community that full of ignorant people, by associating with them every day, more or less he probably would behave the way like his community and learn what he should not learn. However, if he lives in a community full of scholars, not much but he definitely inherits a piece of their learning styles. Perhaps, the environment around everyone is fulfilled by technology. Social media is one of the prime source of education we could exploit, but not everyone benefits from it. In contrast, it conveys a bad habit of learning to people which is demonstrate clearly in the article “Nation Shudders At Large Block of Uninterrupted Text” by the Onion. People are getting lazy because of the convenience of technology. Today, people abuse social media too much like instead of reading a news, people would likely watch a news video or radio (Onion). As a result, reading is more unfamiliar to them, and there appears the phenomenon of uninterrupted text.
