Recommended: Essays on depression in women

This year has been great. It has been full of many stories and many lessons that we can learn from. But, to be specific my three favorite stories out of this semester have to be; To build a fire, yellow wallpaper, and finally story of an hour. I chose these because they have very good imagery in the stories, and unlike a few of the others, these ones actually stuck in my mind. To begin with, my favorite story, To Build A Fire. This story was about a man and his dog companion. They went on a trip walking in Alaska, in the snow. The man was warned not to travel alone, for it was far to cold and something bad could happen. But the man insisted that he would be fine. He was traveling to see some people and he would make it. But the man did a numerous amount of bad things. He forgot to eat, and to build a fire. But when he did build a fire it was right under a snowy tree. In the end the man died, it was sad but quite a good story to read. …show more content…

It is a story spoken from a diary from a woman who suffers from depression. The story takes place in a large home they have rented in the summer, her and her husband. But the husband is typican, and he won’t listen to the troubles of his wife. She sees that the wallpaper is moving and that they are in danger but john keeps dismissing this. She locks the door and rips all the wallpaper off convinced that it is her who is in the wallpaper. John walks in and faints. Overall the story was kind of creepy but i enjoyed it a

    The narrator studies the wallpaper, watching how its colors change from sun up to sun down. It is only a matter of time for her to start seeing images behind its pattern. Once she starts seeing a woman in the walls, her mentality towards everything, even her husband and sister-in-law, starts changing. For example, she now thinks that they are the ones acting different, “he seems very queer sometimes, and even Jennie has an inexplicable look” (Gilman 84).
