Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, best known for his poems and short stories. His exceptional writing was influenced by his own experiences of darkness and mystery in the course of his life. He wrote many poems and short stories, which majority of them were misunderstood in the American literature. Edgar Poe was born in January 19, 1809 to his mother Eliza and David Poe Jr. His father abandoned Poe when he was only one-year-old. Poe’s mother struggle as a single mom actress, to raise three children on her own. Later, she contracted tuberculosis and died, when Poe was just three years old. Throughout the poem, Poe describes every detail of Annabel Lee, as angelical, with an eternal love, is captured in this poem. As I read this poem, I immediately captured the strong emotion he had of his wife Virginia. In the poem, Poe quoted “But we loved with a love that has more than love, I and my Annabel Lee,” this let us know that Annabel was actually married, in the poem a reflection of Poe’s marriage. The poem, is consider a ballad of a fairytale. Despite, of his gloomy darkness writing, and mysterious ways, he was able to capture a beautiful loving story. Poe describes a love that started when they were young, for example in this quote: “She was a child and I was child, in this kingdom by the sea.” A love that started young, throughout the years it evolved to eternal love, a special and rare love that has no comparison. Poe, uses profound words to describe Annabel Lee, which is compared to Virginia. The word “Love” is repeated repetitive throughout the poem, that just an example of the anguish and love he had when he was writing this poem. Things take a turn for the worse, in the poem, an example “The angels, not half so happy in Heaven, went envying her and me” and “that the wind came out of a cloud chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.” Poe blames terrible events in his life, along with the jealous angel, killing his wife. For Poe, the reality is he lost his love of his life. He felt useless not being able to save her from tuberculosis disease. Slowly the disease took her away from his arms. After his loss, he felt cursed to endure such tragedies in his life. From this poem, it reflects Poe’s eternal love to his wife, even after her passing he pledge eternal love, he quotes “But our love it was stronger by for than the love, of those who were older than we,” he shows everlasting
