When it came to the topic of America’s economic standing, I was blissfully ignorant. I knew that there was some room for improvement, and that we were in a “recession” but the severity of our ordeal was not clear to me until I watched the movies Capitalism a Love Story and The Inside Job. Both movies gave a different view about the current state of affairs revolving the United State’s economic crisis. While Michael Moore’s Capitalism a Love Story took a more comedic approach and The Inside Job a more serious one both movies offered the same ending message. Something needs to be done. What exactly can be done though? The answer may be easier than it seems. In my opinion, we need to look to our past to aid our future. We must get back to our roots and take a more simple approach to our economy. We also need to educate our youth, so there is no chance of them getting bamboozled by trick loans, or the fine print of a legal agreement so they can then build a bigger, better and stronger economy. It is often said that History repeats itself. This statement has been proven time and time again throughout the centuries. America is no exception to this repetition of events. As early as 1789 America has felt the blunt force of a recession. These recessions continue on throughout the years. In the time between the first recorded recession of the United States in 1789 and The Great Depression of 1929 there are more than 30 recorded depressions and recessions. 1.) While that is a staggering amount, one must realize that in between these times of sorrow and hardship, were times of booming economy and national growth. If the statement “History repeats itself” is true, than sooner or later we are bound to get out of our current recession. Rather t... ... middle of paper ... ...and an arsenal of know how that will allow them to put the nation on their back and carry it to it’s former pedestal of “The Greatest Nation in the World”. Once we are there we must continue to educate each generation to come so they can keep America in its rightful place.
