Eating Disorders: The Problem that has been Underestimated and Ignored.

Did you know “a study showed that women experience an average of 13 negative thoughts about their body each day, while 97% of women admit to having at least one “I hate my body” moment each day” (Media Influence)? The internet, magazines, and television all contribute to the social standards of how women are supposed to look in today’s world. The Headquarters for fashion is located in New York City. Keeping quiet about their models, they hide their requirements for each girl. America and its Fashion Industry are destroying women, and the image of beauty.
Even the most prestigious of women have lost their battle with Anorexia, proving how terrible this issue is world-wide. French model Isabelle Caro, fashion model Luisel Ramos, Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston, 18-year-old Eliana Ramos, and countless more have passed away shocking the whole world, including the industry of fashion.
28-year-old French model Isabelle Caro spent the last few years of her life raising awareness about Anorexia. In an Ad campaign, Caro posed for pictures completely nude. The skeletal pictures repulsed people internationally. This is the first time controversy has been raised about eating disorders in fashion. Unfortunately, on November 17, 2010 Caro lost her life to this inescapable disease.
After basically starving herself, fashion model Luisel Ramos, passed out and died after doing a show in Uruguay. “Ramos' father reported that she had been subsisting on a diet of lettuce and Diet Coke in anticipation of the show” (Rodenbough).
After being in the hospital for a while, Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston died of a generalized infection on November 15, 2006. Reston was suffering from Anorexia and Bulimia, so her body was very weak because of the dis...

As time passes, these occurrences and events will just keep continuing to get worse unless someone in America steps up. Beauty is not determined with how skinny you are, or how you look. The size 00 in America should definitely not be the ideal weight for young girls to become. America and its Fashion Industry are destroying women, and the image of beauty.
