This essay is about earthquakes in Oklahoma. The studies of when they first became known in Oklahoma to how they have effected the State. And information on them and what can be done. The first known Earthquake in Oklahoma is believed to have centered the state occurred in September of 1918. Then again on December 27 1929 in the same area around El Reno, Oklahoma one effected about 20,000 square kilometers. On September 10 the strongest intensity V threw objects from shelves with shocks following the next day. In April 1952 on the 9th day also centered again near El Reno Oklahoma a 5.5 magnitude earthquake affected most of the State and surrounding States with no extensive damage. Throughout the next several years many more quakes were recorded and damage assessed and research done. There has been controversy that the recent earthquakes are related to the oil and gas industries. Of the more than 10,000 injection wells recorded approximately 6,000 of these wells are used for oil recovery and the remaining wells are used to store drilling waste.
