Disease is common infor young children, but one illness that seems to appear consistently in young children is otitis media, or the ear infection. Five out of six kids get an ear infection before their third birthday. Parents who do not have medical experience may not know if their child has an ear infection and they should take them to the doctor or if the child just has pain, and the trip would be a waste of time. This is inconvenient for the adult and the child. The parent has to take time from their schedule that they could be using to work and the child has to unexpectedly stop what they are doing and go to the doctors, which would probably upset them. This is useful because the parent does not have to pay, travel, or force their child to the doctors. Also, it may late at night when the child’s ear starts hurting, this would be an inconvenience because the parent and the child would tried, but forced to go because the pain the child is bearing.

If the eardrum is swollen, red, opaque, or appears to have fluid behind it, your child has an ear infection.
