Birds. They have always been poached. In many parts of the world they are still given no official protection. In 1918 the Migratory Bird Treaty Act excluded to add Eagles, Falcons, Hawks, and Owls. This treaty protected almost every other winged friend making it prohibited to hunt/ poach them. Thus includes making it outlawed to destroy their homes and kill or trap them. In a small town in Pennsylvania Kittatinny Ridge, came to be known as Hawk Mountain because of the huge numbers of birds of prey passing near it. In the 19th century beginning of the 20th hunters came to this mountain to shoot birds out of the sky by the hundreds.
Ironically, the eagle is the symbol of hope, it’s the symbol for freedom in America. Yet the eagle is shown very little respect. "Taking" a bird is defined as pursuing, hunting, shooting, shooting at, poisoning, wounding, killing, capturing, trapping, or collecting migratory birds. If this were to occur Individuals and organizations may be fined up to $5,000 and $10,000 respectively, and those convicted may face up to six months imprisonment for an offensive violation of the Act. ...Bald Eagle Act. Its simple the only reason we have laws isn’t to create a perfect society or to abuse power. It’s because people are stupid and we need a way to stop them from doing certain things. For example the Bald Eagle Act of 1914 it was written because there were too many eagles dying. Even after it became law poachers still killed eagles. But it did stop after a while. People got paranoid about the fines and jail time.
So in conclusion it is wonderful to have all the laws we have today that protect our feathered friends of course. Many more should be passed if parents don’t teach their kids about endangered birds. I believe that if every parent taught their child or put their child through a class on endangered birds, people who cared would stop hunting them. It would be a chain reaction and a huge victory to all the winged friends we have. Stop poaching.
