An author, a journalist, a soldier, who was E.E Cummings? While those think they know of this well known author, he has secrets most people are unaware of. While poetry is a diverse form of art, Cummings founded a unique style of writing that inspired many. Mr. Cummings was considered a revolutionary author for his creative and historical stories and poems. In this paper we hope shine light on the literature phenomenon that was E.E. Cummings. We will not only tell of the stories behind the writing but also about the person that was this great writer.

Early life In Cambridge, Massachusetts 1894, Edward Estlin was born to his parents, Edward Cummings and Rebecca Haswell Clarke. In the Cummings house, E.E.'s parents pushed him and his younger sister, Elizabeth, to excel at school. His father being a sociologist and political science teacher at Harvard, made his father propel him to an academic route. His father's insistence had quite an affect on E.E., because he grew to be one of the most intellectual students in his grade. E.E., however, never stopped loving writing, so during his college days he was the editor for the university's monthly newspaper. After he graduated, E.E. was sent away to be part of the Norton-Harjes Ambulance Corps in 1917. This organization was in Paris, so Cummings soon found a great love for this capital. During his work for the Ambulance Corps, a friend had been writing him letters that occasionally mentioned the twos views against war, this made the French military censors suspicious. Cummings and his friend were incarcerated September 21, 1917, where they were sentenced to three and a half months in a concentration camp.
