E-commerce- Buying and Selling Products Online The world as we know it today is subject to evolution in almost every aspect of life. Foods are cooked faster, phones no longer have wires, televisions produce images that are almost spitting images of real life. But to narrow the focus we bring attention to the internet. More importantly E-commerce. The definition of E-commerce is the conduction of business via internet websites using them to either purchase a good or service or to sell one. More examples of E-commerce are • accepting credit cards for commercial online sales • generating online advertising revenue • trading stock in an online brokerage account • driving information through a company via its intranet • driving manufacturing and distribution through a value chain with partners on an extranet • selling to consumers on a pay-per-download basis, through a Web site. (Excerpt from www.umsl.edu) E-commerce is a major factor in the world today because it helps to give an option to businesses with multiple tiers of transactions that can create more business opportunities worldwide. The business we as a group decided to explore was the cell phone industry. The store in particular we chose to research was the MetroPcs Provider. This particular store specializes in very affordable phones with even more affordable rate plans for calling, texting and internet. It was founded in 1994 under the name general wireless. But In more modern times it has been purchased by T-Mobile and operates off of their high powered towers. They have a very goal orientated mission which is: To provide our customers with innovative services; expand our market segments through aggressive customer acquisition programs; and provide predictable, affo... ... middle of paper ... ...lay. Shipping charges are fees applied to a purchase in order to get the product to you in a timely fashion. Some vendors offer memberships that allow this to be bypassed. But majority charge hefty fees to get a product to the customer. Those long waits mean a number of unexpected things can happen. Mishandling is an issue that happens when a product is not properly cared for during the shipping process or not delivered to the customer at all. The product may be ordered new and get to the customer scratched or misshapen thanks to neglect on the part of the party responsible for deliveries. All factors considered, there are a few concerns when buying and selling things online. The most noted bit of info is that there is more reward than risk. So upon proper preparation, it would benefit one extensively utilizing the internet to conduct sales as well as purchases.
