‘Duck Dynasty and Quackery’
The article discusses about the racial discrimination over the years while highlighting the mentality of Phil Robertson, a member of the show ‘Duck Dynasty’. My first conclusion is it criticizes the unawareness and racially inconsiderate behavior of Robertson during his interview in GQ magazine where he seems to act unknown about the discrimination and social inequality faced by African Americans. The author condemns this behavior while puts forth his opinion towards the racial segregation that has been affecting the minority group. He expressed his opinion in an interview for a magazine that is internationally recognized, meaning his beliefs and viewpoints are going to be public. As he is one of the publicly known figures, his reactions and comments regarding racial discrimination is thought to be valuable while the magazine is read by people inside and outside the country. Therefore, any insensitive and unsympathetic statement made about racism and social discrimination could be offensive. For instance, the author of the magazine Charles Blow seems to strongly disagree with Robertson’s comments and finds his explanation dishonorable. Even though Robertson shares his personal experience and opinion towards black people, his way of being inconsiderate and acting ignorant about the existing racial discrimination counts as an inadmissible and inappropriate expression favoring racism.
